THE HALF CENTURY LOOMS.....
I am 18 days away from my 50th birthday on 19th May.
Far from being upset about reaching this milestone I am looking forward to it as it gives me the opportunity to throw a party for my family and friends, at which I shall get very drunk as I am serenaded into my 50th year by a very loud Rolling Stones tribute band.
My dear wife on the other hand who reached her 50th in January did so with a select gathering at home and was a little upset about it.....hitting 50 that is, not the select gathering.
Well Forumeers...is age just a number to you?
Regards
Rob aka Aged of the Humber

Hello AOTH - I know how your wife felt. I can add a further 15 years to 50 now but I can clearly remember sitting on the settee crying when I opened a card with a big 50 on it and thinking the next big one will be 60. Funnily enough, the 60 birthday didn't upset me at all - we went out for a meal with some friends. Hubby has just reached 70 but he doesn't act like it - I sometimes wonder if he will ever grow up!!!

Forgot to say have a great birthday on the 19th May - you are only 50 once so you might as well celebrate it.

Hi Robbie
Your age only becomes a problem when you can remember it...I think I'm 50 or was it 60?

Re: THE HALF CENTURY LOOMS.....
I was dreading reaching 50, so we went to Grenada on holiday with some friends and when moaning about reaching that great age, on "the day", one of the Spa ladies reminded me how lucky I was to have got there!
That was 10 years ago next month, and again I can't say I'm ecstatic about being 60 - 53 days to go - but I realise the alternative isn't great. And being Barbados on holiday will ease me into the next decade very nicely I think!
Ejoy your party.

The trouble with getting old, is that your arithmetic starts to fail. At your 50th birthday you will be serenaded into your 51st year
Enjoy it!

Re: THE HALF CENTURY LOOMS.....
It's just another number to me, however we both celebrated our half-centuries in style.
The Lady C always promised she'd take me to Cyprus for mine, and we had a glorious week in the Pioneer Beach Hotel in Paphos. I had to promise to take her to the Big Apple, so we flew over for two nights and sailed back on the QM2. Bliss.
Rob, I hope you have a wonderful day, whatever you decide to do.

Yep just another number. We are both 60+ now, but really do not feel it and are so lucky to be in good health, with a wonderful family and able to go cruising each year.
For Steve's 50th he did not want a fuss and so I suggested a musical and a meal afterwards. On his birthday I gave him tickets for Miss Saigon......
( my favourite musical).... He smiled but I could see he was not that thrilled.... Should have gone to Specsavers... They were for a theatre on Broadway, which he only realised when I gave him the plane tickets around 1/2 hour later
A wonderful time had by all... And he actually enjoyed the show....

It's begining to sound like we should have a thread for those who have 'been there, done that' to provide suggestions for those who have not yet had the pleasure(?)

Rob: Hope you have a great party and have a super time. After all, you are only a bairn as yet!!!!
When my mum (who passed away years ago) was 90 we had a big party for her and she danced and partyed to celebrate being 90 for a full month. She wore us all out!!!!
Thoroughly enjoy whatever you do for your young milestone!!! Do we have to close the city of Kingston Upon Hull for that night so that you can go as wild as you like?????

Hi Aoth
I cried my eyes out on my 30th Birthday. I loved being 40 however. I wasn't fazed at 50, and 60 I took in my stride. Now I've just accepted the inevitable I cannot hold back the years
I hope you have a wonderful birthday.

Oi Mobymodplod
I am much younger than AOTH, a fact of which I remind him at every given opportunity.
I would venture I maybe one of the youngest, but not the youngest

I know I am not THE oldest but certainly up there at the top end. Taking every day as it comes ,making every second count and waking up each morning makes you feel good. Hopefully everyone on here will have many more birthdays to come. They will all be different numbers but all will be important so enjoy them.
