wasn’t it refreshing to have a politician admitting they've got something wrong for a change
With that I would agree - the problem is that she should not have got that wrong in the first place. It is not as if she does not know how things work and if she does not know how things work what has she been doing for the last 10 years. I could forgive if it was someone who had not been in Government and got it wrong.

Nadine Dorries has accused the PM of throwing her chancellor "under a bus"...for saying that it was his decision to remove the 45% tax rate.

No Nasty bitch Nadine….she was just telling the truth, something you and your mate Boris wouldn’t have a clue about.
Nadine Dorries and Priti Patel make Diane Abbot look like a numerical genius.
I am still wondering who got custody of Dorries after Johnson got booted out .;. she may need fed by now!

Like brexit, we are were we are, the 'democratic process' has taken place and we now have to wait and see if anything can be made of the actions taken. As Truss says the last few years of conservatism have not worked. We will never know if they may have worked because she has chosen to take the country on a totally different journey.

Despite being a significant beneficiary (at least in the short term) of her strategy I am still to be convinced there is logic in it.

Come on OL, take your rose coloured glasses off.

No chancellor would make that decision off their own bat without consulting with, and getting the approval of, the PM.
Sorry for my late reply David…we’ve had visitors…. She (Liz) seemed to me to be quite clear about who made that decision and as she is one of very few honest politicians I’m inclined to agree with her.

I see the Kwarteng was out partying with hedge fund managers after his ‘budget’ speech. That’s not good optics as the hedge funds have profited from the week’s chaos!

I also see that Truss has told the King that he can’t go to the COP27 Climate Change Conference. Seems a bit strange, what with Charles being a lifelong environmentalist and the Royal Family were deployed during last years Glasgow conference.

Keith, it’s not just Dorries - loads of people are talking about Truss chucking KamiKwasi under the bus.

And I hear Gove is hinting that he won’t vote for the budget.

I’ve only seen snippets of the Truss interview….. but it looked embarrassingly bad
I think Charles should done on his crown and keep his nose out of politics which after all is a constitutional requirement.

Gove is a snake in the grass.....I've never liked him.

I agree with you about it being embarrassingly bad, Liz really did put Laura in her place, didn’t she?

If you have a smart TV with internet access, wi fi or ethernet cable, then you can now watch any programme from the start automatically through I-player via the red button just saying.

There has been a u-turn in relation to the 45% tax cut from the government.
Embarrassing ... but it is the moral thing to do.
I guess when her job is placed in jeopardy the lady is willing to u-turn.

Now they should reverse the removal of the bankers bonus cap, and give the excess bonuses to the shareholders.

This is taking U-turns to whole new level that Boris had never risen to!

Less than 24 hours before Truss was saying "No way" and was sticking with the policy.

Perhaps it is the awakening that she needed that she does not have the overwhelming support of Tory MPs.

Cake and eat it is my reaction to U turn comments.

Didn't like the 45% tax cut.

Now don't like the 45% tax cut cut.

It was the bit of the budget I didn't like. It was the bit Sir H said he would vote against. It was also the only bit not pre leaked so presumably the bit that spooked the markets. So I'm glad sense has been seen.

I think it was a big mistake from the start, it detracted from bankers bonuses which is far more contentious IMO.

Maybe - but bankers bonuses does not affect as many as the 45% tax rate does and maybe that will go unnoticed now (perhaps a "cunning plan" all along!)

Hopefully it will reduce the £65bn the BoE had to waste on supporting the chaos created.

Arguably bankers bonuses could affect more people. While it is a bit of a red herring, since it appears that the banks had found several ways to bypass the cap and pay the full bonuses, I would have preferred that instead of paying these extortionate bonuses to the few they were made to give more back to the shareholders.

I'd have preferred they were made to give more back to their customers, why way of interest on savings.

The 45% tax cut was an insensitive thing to have done but considering how many u-turns Boris came up with one shouldn’t allow what to my mind is the best way forward for our economic recovery to be scuppered

The alternatives amongst other is having Ang, Wes and Ed making decisions about our economy.

Savings interest comes from a different type of banking to that where the large bonuses are being distributed.
The way to share those bonuses with the customer is via the shareholder.
