Hospital pharmacy’s are a nightmare.
The hold up here as far as I can gather is the discharge letter which can take a couple of hours or more.

Before you rush to get out, have you heard what it's like out here? When you get home you could find a letter asking if you fancy a job in the cabinet. Apparently it's now more likely than winning £25 on the Premium Bonds

Re: Forum partially down
Last year when I was being undischarged I was moved down to the discharge lounge. Once there I was told that as soon as my discharge letter and medication were available I would be allowed to go home. After sitting there for two hours I went to the desk and said can you not email me my copy of the discharge letter to save waiting. The nurse then reached over took a letter off the shelf and said we are waiting for pharmacy - but I said "I do not need any medication", so she looked at the letter and said "Oh no you don't all that is down is to take paracetamol as and when, which the patient will provide". So I was given my letter and allowed to go home. Looking at the letter the time it was created was about 10 minutes before I was in the discharge lounge - in other words I could have gone straight home.Stephen wrote: 20 Oct 2022, 10:00Hospital pharmacy’s are a nightmare.

I do sometimes wonder if the left hand knows what the right is doing.

Re: Forum partially down
I was in hospital in Newcastle and was told I could go home. I contacted my wife and my transport and they set off from the other side of the country. I got rid of the wires and the machines I had been tethered to for the past 10 days, dressed, packed up my bag and waited for their arrival only to be told when they got there that I wasn't going home so they had to drive back home (in the snow) and I had to be wired up again!!
When I did get the all clear the next day I had the same wait for discharge papers and medications. I'd had good care whilst in hospital but the discharge arrangements left much to be desired. Not good after major surgery.

Re: Forum partially down
Quite a number of years ago I had my first ever overnight stay in hospital, the following morning, the nurse making her rounds told me I can go home today. After she carried on with her round, t I was up and dressed and on my way.
Now, having never had a stay in hospital, I was not aware of actually having to wait to be discharged. when I next went to see the consultant on the follow up, he was none too pleased that I saw fit to discharge myself. don`t think he really listened to my explanation.

This hospital you're in, Stephen, does it have bars at the windows and do the nurses carry big bunches of keys?
Hope you're soon better and back in your own bed.
