I’ve upping my initial estimate of £50k up to £100k on the back of just seeing two helicopters hovering of the palace.
Media. Not the public purse. And helicopters don't cost £50k a pair for a couple of hours.
Have you seen how much a 20 minute flight costs on shore excursions.? 🤣🤣
But not quite £50k! Except on Silversea of course.

Agree it was a good speech, however I suspect some are going to get upset when we hear the budget on Monday. It was good to see mentions for the environment and not leaving our debt to our children (our generation does need to take more responsibility), plus the levelling up agenda back on the books.

Let's see who makes the cabinet will he hang on to Hunt, will Mordaunt get a job, will he offer Johnson and Truss jobs as office cleaners?
He certainly said the right things. It's just nice to have an adult in charge, and I currently haven't got that feeling of creeping dread that I've had for the last several years.

Perhaps we finally hit rock bottom with Truss, and this is where the turn for the better happens. I hope so. Although it will take many years to recover.

I see a lot of cabinet ministers are resigning, to avoid getting sacked

I agree Gill, I feel that for the first time in several years we have a proper politician in charge, someone that will put the betterment of the country first. The next week or so will be interesting and we should get a better view of his strategy.

At least Rees-Mogg has gone ... maybe all the retrograde ideas he seemed to champion will go with him.

I hope she continues with her pressure on Chief Constables to get on with tackling crime instead of politically correct initiatives.

Of all the announcements today, the one I am most disappointed in is that Truss did not apologise for her fubar.

She didn’t look too pleased, maybe expecting a bigger job, but glad she’s still in the cabinet.

Disappointing, she broke the ministerial code, but she’s back within the week

I think that it was all a "put up" job to oust Truss.

Whilst sending an email outside of the system is a breach of the ministerial code I doubt that just one email demanded a resignation - slap on the wrist maybe.

I'd say a minor human error rather than gross misconduct. Show me an MP who never made a mistske and I'll show you a unicorn and a mermaid.

If that's what the opposition want to talk about at this time it says more about them than the government.

Hardly a hanging offence and I presume Sunak will have been made fully aware of the circumstances before appointing her. Without knowing the full story it's not easy to make the same judgement. Of course Starmer will do his best but I think there are more pressing issues he could challenge him on.

I did say at the time of her resignation that I didn’t understand why she would try and take Truss down with her…I’m now thinking David is right with his theory of it being a “put up” job.

I was hoping better things for Penny, other than continuing in the graveyard slot, but at least he didn’t cast her aside completely.

In my opinion too many women, in every Party, have been promoted in recent times because of political correctness rather than their capability or skill set. Truss being a classic example.

With guidance and opportunity Penny could potentially develop into a capable minister but senior appointments should not be rushed.

The Labour Party have had a positive discrimination policy which I disagree with. Man or woman, black or white, gay or straight it should be the best person for the job and that should apply to all walks of life. Political correctness does not always work.
Unfortunately I know not everybody shares that point of view.

Re: Mobs post

I wouldn’t disagree with anything you have said but where experience is concerned Sunak isn’t what you would call an experienced Minister.

My view on Penny is that she appears to exude an air of confidence which it has to be said has been in short supply these past few months, I also think voters see her as someone who they can relate to, insomuch as she comes across as an honest politician. Leaving her in the back room of the cabinet was a mistake in my opinion as I believe politicians with her presence need to be seen at the front of the party, especially so as they approach the next GE.
