Good news, or is it. The governments reaffirmation of Sizewell C nuclear power station with £700m is a drop in the ocean. The new power station is to help to secure our own power and be less reliance on other countries.
It's still a long way from being built as partner E.on will give their decision in 12 to 20 months time, also we still have to raise over 50% of the money from investors. When electricity does starts to flow which may be well into the 2030s, it looks like we may not to have buy from abroad to keep the lights on because it's produced here, but the need to rely on foreign investors will still mean that what we pay as consumers will still go to other countries. Nothing changes.

Re: Current Affairs
Watching University Challenge last night got me thinking. When I was a student at Nottingham during the mid 70s, I recall it being claimed that the city had the largest student:resident ratio in the UK (I’m not sure I believe it when you consider university towns such a St Andrews & Cambridge - but never mind.) The pop of Nottingham in the ‘70s was about 220k and there were about 4k at University, 3k+ at the poly, about 1500 at Clifton and a few more at other teacher training establishments, probably about 10k overall.
Introducing the teams last night it was announced that Robt Gordon’s, Aberdeen had ~19k students and I’m sure the university will have at least the same. The pop of Aberdeen is ~230k. That just emphasises how the demographic has changed over the years. It’s hardly surprising that pension ages need to rise as such a large proportion of the population have had their working span eroded by study time.

No Ray, it will only be any profits that will go as dividends to any overseas investors, and that will be after paying UK taxes.Ray B wrote: 29 Nov 2022, 14:39Good news, or is it. Thank you John,I bow to your superior knowledge as it sounds correct. I just write it as I see it and the news that comes out. But as always, major infrastructure in this country always seems to take many years just to get something started. In this case it's something which was recognized as needed many years ago and only now is it looking that it may finally get to be build.

I correct myself, it should have read as EDF and not E.on #18178.

Interesting story that shows just what a devious couple H&M are. Looks like their Netflix series is going to be about as factual as Coronation Street.

I’m sure you’ll all join me in congratulating Harry and Meghan having been awarded the Ripple of Hope award for their activism on racial justice and mental health.

I don't think either will win an award for building good family relationships.
Are they still joining us in saving the planet in their private jet?

It was nice to see that they were allowed out for the night as, according to Harry, that is not something that they can do now they have children.Onelife wrote: 07 Dec 2022, 10:04I’m sure you’ll all join me in congratulating Harry and Meghan having been awarded the Ripple of Hope award for their activism on racial justice and mental health.![]()

You are probably right there Foxy…it all seemed to go to pot with his mother’s parting.oldbluefox wrote: 07 Dec 2022, 10:16I don't think either will win an award for building good family relationships.

Limiting the viability of how many cruises one can take in a year will probably be a far better way of saving the planet.

Actually it is bad parenting not allowing your children to interact with other children and adults. Something that may come back to bite them when their children have mental health issues.

.....and having no contact with other members of the family on her side or his - no grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins.
You have to feel sorry for their children who will grow up with their parent's Netflix legacy.

The fact that they are distancing themselves from both dysfunctional families can only be a good thing for their children, Imo.
The way Harry and Meghan’s interact with their children William and Kate could learn a few lessons.
I like happy endings, don’t you?
