Pleased to hear that. He lost his way at City. Plenty of commitment but prone to needless yellow cards and apt to give the ball away in dangerous positions. The loan move will be good for him at this stage in his career.

That's a common trait in the Championship but it doesn't get punished like it does in the Premoldbluefox wrote: 09 Nov 2022, 13:13Pleased to hear that. He lost his way at City. Re: Football 22/23
That's right. At the moment he is not yet good enough for the Prem because any mistakes are often punished but he will make a good signing for a decent Championship club. That may be his limit but he needed a loan move/transfer to give him regular game time.Manoverboard wrote: 09 Nov 2022, 14:41That's a common trait in the Championship but it doesn't get punished like it does in the Premoldbluefox wrote: 09 Nov 2022, 13:13Pleased to hear that. Re: Football 22/23
Gareth Southgate names 26-man England World Cup squad
Leicester midfielder James Maddison has been included
Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford and Newcastle striker Callum Wilson also included
Goalkeepers: Pickford (Everton), Pope (Newcastle), Ramsdale (Arsenal)
Defenders: Maguire, Shaw (both Man Utd), Dier (Tottenham), Stones, Walker (both Man City), Trippier (Newcastle), Coady (Everton), White (Arsenal), Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)
Midfielders: Bellingham (Borussia Dortmund), Mount, Gallagher (both Chelsea), Rice (West Ham), Henderson (Liverpool), Phillips (Man City)
Forwards: Maddison (Leicester), Foden, Grealish (both Man City), Kane (Tottenham), Saka (Arsenal), Sterling (Chelsea), Wilson (Newcastle), Rashford (Man Utd)
Don't think we will go any further than the Knockout stage. At least James Madison is included, the best player in the country at the moment.

Re: Football 22/23
I must admit that I don’t really follow Premier League football so I’m not really that qualified to comment on this selection but I do know that players are generally selected on form, so I must ask, how has Maguire got into the squad ?
Strange one.

I am old enough to remember 1966 and going into that tournament Alf Ramsey's team were highly unfancied, much as Southgate is now so never say never, but it will be a surprise to me if they qualify from the group stage and then fail at the knockout stage.

The England vs Iran kick off is at 13:00hrs on Monday. No sign of it being televised live nor is there a highlight prog on Monday ... or is there ?
Looks like Rob Edwards, ex Watford Manager, will be plying his wares at Luton ... God help him

England v Iran live on BBC1. Kick off 1 pm prog starts 12. As far as I can see every game is live. Four games each day in the early stages. at 10 am, 1 pm, 4 pm and 7 pm. Except Sunday when there's only one, as usual, to open the tournament.
Glad that Rob Edwards has got the Luton job.

Pleased to see that all the time wasted during a match is being added on at the end. Hopefully it will be continued after the World Cup.

Re: Football 22/23
I'm finding it hard to get involved in this world cup.
Probably because I no longer watch PL football, the players are strangers to me.
I missed the England game but watched the goals on Youtube.
Looked pretty impressive.
I caught the last five minutes of Wales.
A good point for them.
Hopefully, it will warm up after the league stage.

Re: Football 22/23
Well I'm enjoying it and I didn't think I would. Some good games, excellent refereeing (not var) and the under dogs ripping up the form book.
Just watched Tunisia v Denmark a very good 0-0 and this morning Saudi Arabia beating Argentina was amazing. Argentina are/were one of the favourites to win the cup and Wales came good in the end.
England did well against a poor Iran team but how on earth did we concede two? I won't get carried away by England.

bensham, you could see the first goal coming as we took our foot off the pedal. Nearly got away with the penalty but for their protests, not much faith in our goal keeper we will see if he is any better Friday.

I don't think we have a problem with Pickford but our defence generally is weak. We will get found out later on in the tournament. We won't get much further than the 2nd round.

Re: Football 22/23
Apparently the PL are not going to follow the FIFA ruling on added time. Pity that as I find timewasting quite irritating and totally unproductive. I have noticed in the WC added time has reduced now that feigned injuries, free kicks, goal kicks, throw ins no longer take so long. There is now an incentive for the winning team to get on with it rather than trying to run the clock down.
For my money it's a good initiative. Pity the PL don't feel the same and are quite happy to sanction time wasting tactics.

It's not time wasting, it's game management. Apparently.

Re: Football 22/23
You're sounding like Southgate
It's cheating the paying public out of game time unless some people like watching players doing nothing but time wasting. Personally I want to see them actually playing football.

I don't want to see these ridiculous added times become the norm for football league games, added time is already far too long as it is.

Re: Football 22/23
Once players realise time wasting doesn't work added time will be reduced as has already happened in the WC. Watching Pickford taking nearly a minute to kick a ball doesn't float my boat one bit.

Re: Football 22/23
But they all do it. Every team in every league wastes time. Some more than others yes. And if Pickford took more than a minute to kick the ball he would have been booked for time wasting. It's only annoying when your team are loosing and you want your opponent's to get on with it. You'll never change it, it's all part of the game.
Ps. I'm watching South Korea v Ghana. What a game.

Re: Football 22/23
He was, he took one for the team. They do all do it but that doesn't make it right. I don't like it even when it's my team doing it and I would be very happy to see it eliminated. Why shouldn't the ball be in active play for the duration of the match?Bensham33 wrote: 28 Nov 2022, 14:21But they all do it. Every team in every league wastes time. Some more than others yes. 'Allo 'Allo.....The Gills FA Cup replay vs Dagenham & Redbridge is being shown live on ITV 4. Thursday 8th December. Kick off 7.45 pm.
No World Cup matches that evening. What a shame the Germans have been knocked out. Come on England.
