Re: Current Affairs
It was reported that both William and Harry had the option of whether they wanted to walk behind the coffin. Philip said if Harry wanted to follow he would walk with him so he wasn't forced into it at all. It was indeed heart rending to watch but those boys were well supported.
The phantom wedding three days prior was disproved by the Archbishop of Canterbury who confirmed it was not a wedding (which would have been illegal) but merely a blessing. You are correct in your understanding but that is not what Meghan said.
I cannot understand why this couple spin these lies and half truths which are later uncovered for what they are. However I respect your loyalty to them.

I don’t suppose you could drop them a note telling them what sacrifices I’m making for them…I’ve never been to America.oldbluefox wrote: 11 Dec 2022, 22:51It was reported that both William and Harry had the option of whether they wanted to walk behind the coffin. No, it isn’t a surprise as we are all influenced by what we read in the papers, but thank gawd we haven’t got so far drawn in that we can’t have differing views of our own.
Well I'm not influenced by all the dross dished out by the media on a daily basis over H&M. I refuse to get sucked in by all of the claims, I read a few yes, but don't get excited over any of it.

I don't for one minute think that anything any of us says on here will make a whit of difference but it's good to amicably chew things over and have a good discussion and maybe OL will see things differently when he finds out what H&M have done with his chocolates

Re: Current Affairs
As I’ve said previously, there was little in the way of revelations in those episodes so I’m expecting that the bombs are still to come.
Otherwise, Netflix have been ripped off.
I suspect that Ginge & Whinge will go nuclear in the next few.

The way to go Ray, I don’t doubt you and others are astute enough to be able to read between the lines of what the media dish out, but I think it is becoming increasingly difficult to form a subjective view when the media has uncontrolled freedom to print whatever malicious garbage it likes, which, whether we like it or not, does influence most of our opinions.Ray B wrote: 12 Dec 2022, 12:22Posted by OL.

Anyhow’s, I’ve had my say on the matter of Harry and lovely Meghan so will now fade into the background.

O L have you got/getting replacements for Molly and Betty as in our area it's a tad difficult to move chickens around as good hygiene and disinfecting is required to stop the transfer of Avian flue.

Hi Ray, the good news is that Molly came out the other end still breathing so I have decided to give them both a reprieve.Ray B wrote: 12 Dec 2022, 19:52O L have you got/getting replacements for Molly and Betty as in our area it's a tad difficult to move chickens around as good hygiene and disinfecting is required to stop the transfer of Avian flue.
This bird flu has been a major concern for the poultry industry and backyard chicken keepers like my wife. Thankfully enclosing two chickens is far easier than doing the same for thousands of the little blighters. Our two have spent more time behind bars than they have running round the garden this past couple of years…however, I’m not complaining on that score as they make such a mess of my garden.
It hasn’t spread to this neck of the woods as much as it has in certain areas so following the rules is the only way we are going to keep it at bay.
Our little darlings haven’t stopped laying all year round and are still producing at least one/two eggs a day….it is however costing us a lot more on feeding them greens…we’ve got a couple of the villagers saving some of their left overs, with the promise of a few eggs when available (I’ve told them that chickens stop laying between November and March)
Not a good time for chickens, their owners and birds in general.

Fast tracking Albanian migrants who have illegally entered the UK and a plane a week taking them back to Albania. Some where we have heard that before.
Deciding on the status of the 100,000 backlog of migrants by the end of the year, that's some task.
New laws making it illegal to enter the UK, unless by official entry points, making it clear you have no rite to remain.
So far all words again, what is required is action without obstacles to carry out the proposals and to deter those who enter the UK of the consequences

Re: Current Affairs
I wouldn’t get too carried away with any of it Ray.
It simply won’t happen.
Why?
Because the incompetence level of this government is off the scale.
When the Rwanda policy was announced (remember that) I said to my missus that if they pulled it off, they would be a shoe in for the next election but I was absolutely confident that they wouldn’t.
The latest poll shows a Labour victory by 314 seats.
Not 314 seats in total but a 314 seat majority.
Of course this will not happen but the winds of change are blowing.

Re: Current Affairs
I guess if the lawyers let us get away with deporting all illegal entrants back to their country of origin, than that should certainly incentivise potential asylum seekers to ensure they use a legal route, BUT somehow I think all it will do is encourage the sympathetic leftiy human rights activists to work even harder to ensure the govt does not succeed.Ray B wrote: 13 Dec 2022, 14:50Fast tracking Albanian migrants who have illegally entered the UK and a plane a week taking them back to Albania. Re: Current Affairs
Quoted from the letters page of our local paper:
"It's amazing. I'm in Asia where they just say No you can't come here. Eastern Europe have said no your not coming here you're not welcome. They don't go to the middle East because they're not made welcome. They travel through Europe and all the nice safe countries we go to for a holiday. They then come to Britain where we house them in hotels. What we need is some honesty from our government. Because we just get a pack of lies from sniveling politicians from both sides of the house and a severe lack of backbone. Australia and New Zealand don't have a problem. We are too bloody soft".
I can't disagree with any of that.

It’s true, it isn’t racist, it is plain common sence. It doesn’t matter which way you look at this, those that come here without skills will more than likely require Government support for the foreseeable future…this makes no economic sence and as a result will create more poor enclaves around the country.

Re: Current Affairs
Call me heartless but while I feel sorry on a human level for those who have lost their lives last night, I can’t bring myself to feel sympathy for what they are doing. People around the country do collections for the lifeboat, Air ambulance and land-based rescue services in order to save lives, I doubt very much that they would be very happy if they thought the money was being spent on rescuing illegal immigrants. The forty or so who have been rescued will now be taking up beds in already overcrowded hospitals and once recovered hotel rooms…this is unsustainable and must be stopped one way or another.

Re: Current Affairs
They are not being rescued as normally their craft is capable of making it to shore..
Lifeboat crews from RNLI to Independent lifeboat stations give up many hours of time training in readiness to be called any time of day to save lives in danger at sea not to be used as a taxi service.

Re: Current Affairs
Unfortunately more migrants lost their lives in the Channel today and I am sad that this has happened.
They know the danger they are facing especially at this time of the year crossing the channel in small and may be overloaded crafts. More the reason why the UK have to try and stop this madness. The migrants have recklessly put their lives and the lives of those that went to their rescue in unnecessary danger.
Fast track the survivors through and get them on a plane back.

Re: Current Affairs
I note that the new leader of the SNP in Westminster says there's no such thing as an illegal migrant, so perhaps we could send them all to Scotland.

The SNP in touch with reality as ever. Of course if Scotland gets independence and rejoins the EU anyone with boots on the ground in mainland Europe will be able to travel there freely and legally. They might find that a more comfortable journey than boats across the Channel. Hope the Free Scotland economy can afford to support them.

As long as we can find a way of keeping them North of Cumbria (inclusive) then I could go along with it.towny44 wrote: 14 Dec 2022, 12:35I note that the new leader of the SNP in Westminster says there's no such thing as an illegal migrant, so perhaps we could send them all to Scotland.
