Not wishing to make a meal of it but your self-righteous comedian sensationalists make Harry and Meghan look like the perfect dining companions…in my absence.towny44 wrote: 10 Jan 2023, 17:53I think I would much prefer to have Jetremy and Piers as table mates than H and M. Comedy over dinner is far better than two not very interesting lovebirds, too self righteous for their own good.Onelife wrote: 10 Jan 2023, 17:18So, if you believe the tabloids that Lovely Meghan is rude and difficult does that make Camilla very, very 'Dangerous' … given that she and Charles had 4 resignations from their personal service in the space of a few months back in 2017?
Perhaps she’s spending too much time serving dinner to her good friends Clarkson and Morgan, some would say, two of the worse cretins you could ever wish to meet… brings to mind the quote: Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are.![]()

Re: Current Affairs 2023
The Government are looking to introduce no strike clause for emergency services.
My initial view is that they are right to do this as I don’t think any emergency service should have the right to play God with people’s lives. Of course, it is a very complicated situation and something will have to be put in place so that public sector pay has some kind of parity with that private sector pay...which highlights, in many cases, the disparity between the value one sector has over the other.
5% plus a one-off payment seems fair to me especially if it comes with the promise of honouring future independent pay revue body recommendations.

I agree the Government are right to do this, but with so much turmoil going on is it the right time to 'declare war' on the unions? They ain't going to take this lying down.

I don’t know whether it is the right time or not but the Government seems to be fast running out of options, other than to prepare themselves a free for all pay increase onslaught. What concerns me if they do introduce this new legislation how they will implement it…fines for the unions may have some leverage but sacking strikers would appear counterproductive considering the shortages in the skilled emergency’s work force.Bensham33 wrote: 10 Jan 2023, 20:03I agree the Government are right to do this, but with so much turmoil going on is it the right time to 'declare war' on the unions? Yeah, well it's typical of this Government they don't think things through properly. I just think it's the right policy but the wrong time to introduce it. At least sort out the NHS workers and the train drivers/RMT first and then bring it in. To try and do it now would just cause more trouble.

I think the NHS workers deserve a good rise both for themselves and to encourage recruitment. I'm much less convinced about railway workers. Some are poorly paid but others very well paid.

It will be interesting to see if Keir does honour his commitment to repeal the anti union legislation when (but hopefully only if) he wins the next election. Somehow I doubt he will make it his first priority.Bensham33 wrote: 10 Jan 2023, 20:03I agree the Government are right to do this, but with so much turmoil going on is it the right time to 'declare war' on the unions? If he does he needs an alternative solution. The public, many of whom have no industrial muscle, cannot go on being held to ransom by those who do. Remember it is not the government who will pay any increases, it is the taxpayer.

I’m always a little sceptical about any pledges from opposition parties as the economic climate at the time of transition should determine policy. Thinking that you will be able to keep party political promises are promise made for foolish ambitions, not sound decision making.towny44 wrote: 10 Jan 2023, 22:00It will be interesting to see if Keir does honour his commitment to repeal the anti union legislation when (but hopefully only if) he wins the next election. I can only think of two politicians that have done what they said they was going to do and that's Nigel Farage and Boris Johnson.

Yes’ they were both one trick ponies but at least they got us to where the majority wanted us to be.

It would be during his one to one chat to Meghan advising her on PR strategy.

That was an interesting phone call...Meg’s was telling me that her husband’s book is the fastest selling nonfiction book ever sold…I replied with…”the truth always wins through in the end” to which she replied... "love you!, speak to you soon"xx
