I think we would survive but wouldn't we miss them.....Which is the greater of the two inventions...The mobile phone or the internet and broadband

It amuses - ear wigging conversations of mobile phone chats on public transport
Makes for an entertaining train/bus journey into town
Have yourself a great week end in Saff London

I could live without a mobile but then I don't have one that is all "singing and dancing" maybe I would think differently if I had one that was, I would be lost without the internet as I use it for so much but I suppose we survived before we had these things so would survive if we didn't have them.

I could live without a mobile, but it is very useful for Satnav stuff, and also for maps of towns which we aren't too familiar with.
I could - at a stretch - keep everything just about under control without internet, but it keeps everything nicely in trim and also it's so quick that there is more free time for enjoying or misbehaving - whichever comes first!
However, people who have become to dependent on the new fangled stuff would come a cropper if we ever had to revert to 'the old ways'.
Mental arithmetic, remembering numbers and details without having them safely ensconced in a mobile something-or-other - it's all good 'food for the soul' methinks.
It's not that I am tight-fisted, but I do make a habit of going around a supermarket and keeping a running total in my head as we go around; and I do like it when we finish at the check-out and I'm correct.

I do use my mobile, but not a great deal, so I guess if it was ome or the other, I'd forgo that. The internet, oh my word, I would REALLY be lost without.

I could certainly do without a mobile phone.
I have one pay as you go, I put £10 on it months ago, I never take it out, it's always left at home. Lorraine always has hers with her.
The Internet or broadband is a different matter, I am always using my IPad.

Re: Survival . . .
I an quite sure I would survive but I am on my 4th I Phone and I would truly miss it.
Where as others use laptops/computers my phone is my access to the Internet. I shop, book holidays, receive e mails, take photographs and use the video recorder. I have radio stations from around the world on it and can watch TV. I have music on it, read the local and national newspapers on it and when going away I add a load of books.
Although I know nothing about computers I can do exactly the same things on my phone and it is in my purse. Being small is the only downfall. I am thinking of now getting the I pad purely for the larger size.
I am on the dreaded Facebook as my only family are USA residents and it keeps us in daily contact.
It is 'constantly' in use but it is very seldom used for its main function as a phone.
As an oldie I love all these modern things.

I am also extremely good at mental arithmetic, don't need a calculator.
However, do like using the scanner's they now provide at supermarkets, so you can scan and pack your goods as you go around doing your shop. They also give a running total
Saves unpacking your goods at the end of your shop onto a conveyor belt, then packing them again after the cashier scans them.
Used the scanner today in Sainbury's, spent less than 5 minutes at the check out.

I only had a mobile phone in order to text my son who was deaf. Now that he is losing his eyesight and is back living at home, I hardly use it. On our 4 month World cruise I really didn't miss the internet. When I discovered the P&O forum was down I did feel a bit miffed but fortunately had plenty to occupy me and realised I actually could live without it. Now of course I'm back home and I need to order clothes on-line and check out the forum and book another cruise. Oo-er! I don't think I could live without my computer anymore

Internet is a must for my job.
I bought my first smartphone last year and could easily live without it ... I have never understood these people who seem to have it surgically attached to their hand and can't set it down for more than 5 seconds without panic attacks sweeping over them ... are they really that lonely?

I would not enjoy loosing either the phone or the Internet. I text my friends and offspring all the time. Much cheaper and less time consuming than a land line conversation, as for the computer, it is the greatest invention since the wheel. Jay

A tenner on my PAYG Mobile lasts for at least a year and is virtually a ' Just in case there is an emergency ' device. It and a couple of others plus its eventual replacement will be courtesy of a bargain on e-Bay.
T'Internet however is for us a way of life and it would be a real pain to manage without it ... but manage we would of course.

When I moved house last year I was without internet for a few weeks, and I didn't miss it all that much. I was without phone for a week a year go when the signal died and Vodaphone were less than helpful in fixing it. So yes, I can live without them, but only one at a time!

I'm not too fussed about my phone, it's useful for the odd text, or occasional call, but I'm not sure I could do without the internet.
A lot of my life is online now - banking, buying everything from groceries to clothes, tickets, Kindle books and everything else you can imagine, running my eBay empire, interacting on forums, I'd miss it if it wasn't there suddenly.
but I don't do Facebook or Twitter, that's never appealed

I would miss my phone and/or the internet but could survive without either. It's just that some stuff I find so easy online would become more tedious if I had to go back to the old methods. For example going in to the bank or to an ATM to check my balance, ringing tourist information offices to find hotels to stay in, ringing round airlines for prices or relying on a TA to find me the best deal. Searching for a working phone box to phone home and say I've lost the shopping list, etc etc.
Not essential, but handy.

Both are very useful tools to me but unlike my daughters generation, who's lives revolve around their phones, I could live without both.
I would miss my car and my golf clubs more.

I’m sure it would be better all round if I did away with both my phone and computer...as I would make more of an effort to go and see my friends instead of texting or emailing all the time.

I have to agree with you about the car and clubs, especially the clubs. However, we have now got new phones and have a walking tracker download, so that at the end of the day our friends can see where we have walked, and also we can see where we have been as an added holiday memento.
Don't know if I would ever try tracking a 'walk' on a golf course though - it might be a tad confusing!!!

Best mobile phone chat ever overheard was a young lad on the bus that takes you to the aircraft from the terminal trying to book travel insurance for the skiing holiday he was about to fly too. Caused quiet a few smiles on the bus he was obviously well organised.

If this is going to cause upset - forgive me and delete this post immediately please , but ........ why oh why do people have to stand on their stateroom balcony and YELL into their mobile phones to tell everyone and their cat/dog that they are on the ship and where they are ....... all the blasted time?
Couldn't this be done (if they absolutely have to do it) discreetly inside the stateroom?
I've heard everything from one end of the imagination to the other, but what I didn't hear was the cries of despair when people got home and received the bill for the phone calls!

Because they or the cat / dog / child / parent cannot cope without daily contact with one another.
