If course Labour will oppose the budget, that's their job. I don't pretend to understand all of it but from what I do understand it seems quite fair and we need to give it time to see if the back to work ideas work.

Sometimes you have to get off the same old ride to see where you are going…less of course your happy to keep going round in circles.towny44 wrote: 15 Mar 2023, 15:57The best revolution for OL would be for him to be condemned to a non stop ride on a very fast Waltzer.

Yes I know, it's inevitable and I've no doubt that a Tory opposition would do the same with a Labour government.paultheagle wrote: 15 Mar 2023, 18:13If course Labour will oppose the budget, that's their job. But I'm not sure it's their job. It's so negative for negative's sake. I reckon the job of all MPs is to do what's best for their constituents and the country, irrespective of whose idea it was.
We need more positive politics. I'm almost ready to vote for OL as PM, on condition he ditches his daft ideas on the Monarchy of course.

How you create a political system which is fit for purpose is probably beyond real expectation but removing the Monarchy would bring us a step closer to achieving it.imo

The Monarchy is irrelevant to the problem. IMO.

The Monarchy does lend our parliament an extra bit of pageantry that others, try as they might, cannot hope to replicate. But why OL thinks it has any real influence or impact on how parliament governs the country is beyond my comprehension.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
Whilst the Monarch has no direct political power he/they certainly have power, this power comes in the guise of influence. It is quite laughable to suggest Charles doesn’t have any political clout when he has been meddling in it for years.towny44 wrote: 15 Mar 2023, 22:42The Monarchy does lend our parliament an extra bit of pageantry that others, try as they might, cannot hope to replicate. On the subject of Royalty there's a program on BBC2 tonight, at six thirty, about a food festival in Cockermouth so watch out for OBF on a regal walk-a-bout

Re: Current Affairs 2023
It's usually quite interesting with loads of tasty drinks and eats. However if you're buying there you need deep pockets or can afford a log burner. Nice but not cheap. Myself you are more likely to find in Tony Harrison's the butcher who makes fabulous Cumberland sausage, good sized portions of wonderful meat pie (we call it slab pie up here) and great sausage rolls nothing like the puny things you get from Greggs. Locals then go to Beatfords or Norham House, nice old fashioned spots where you can get good Cumbrian fare at reasonable prices. Veevo next to the auction room can also be recommended.Manoverboard wrote: 16 Mar 2023, 07:45On the subject of Royalty there's a program on BBC2 tonight, at six thirty, about a food festival in Cockermouth so watch out for OBF on a regal walk-a-bout![]()
So if you manage to spot me I'll likely be on my way for a coffee and a bacon roll in Beatfords!! No charge for the recommendations. Don't mention my name cos they already know what Stephen's like and by association I don't wany my reputation tarnished. And don't mention OL cos we're all Royalists up here and Charles often pays a visit to the calm and serenity of this part of the world, away from the loony tunes!!!
I was taught to be cautious

I just love these stories as it brings us ever closer to Harry exposing the Royal pantomime for what it truly is…which of course is what the exposure of these stories are intended to do.
Keep them coming.

I agree Stephen, though I'm not sure Paul "who can I flog my story to" Burrell is best placed to comment!

Jeremy Hunt on the the lunch time news gave me a chuckle
"Well, we have to be honest with the public".
And for the log burner brigade there are piles of wood in central Plymouth.

I saw that story as well and don't blame the locals.
Typical council, do what they like, yet if you or I were to cut down a tree they'd be all over us like a rash.

As Plymouth Council pulled a nasty over their residents, do they realize the council elections are not far away.
Quote barney,
The locals are revolting.
Having only passed through Plymouth to get the ferry to Santander, I have to take your word for that.

I see they're having strikes and riots in France. Is the cause:
A. Corrupt Tories
B. The Monarchy
C. The Daily Mail
D. Brexit

None of the above, I expect the French are revolting, because like the English they are fed up with very rich people telling them about how little they have to live on.

It's so nice to see you on here now. I always enjoyed your humorous posts on Batwoman's CN site.

To be fair the French have always been revolting. Whatever their gripe they always seem to think the answer is to blockade the Channel portspaultheagle wrote: 17 Mar 2023, 18:48None of the above, I expect the French are revolting, because like the English they are fed up with very rich people telling them about how little they have to live on.
