Even with my basic education I know that the title of “Queen” is/should only be used by those who have ascended to the throne through the hereditary line of succession…but hey!...Where the Royals are concerned they can make it up as they go along.barney wrote: 05 Apr 2023, 21:16I’m in.
It’s quite normal for a King’s wife to be known as Queen.
Anyone with a basic education would know that.

History shows that not to be the case.
It's a great idea. Count me in.

That's what Queen Elizabeth suggested. Charles has changed it. His football, his rules I suppose. She will be Queen Camilla. It is at the behest of the hereditary monarch what title their spouse will take as far as I know.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
I am more than happy for her to be called Queen Camilla, George VI s wife was Queen Elizabeth, and Geoge Vs wife was Queen Mary, so Charles is just following royal precedent.

As has been the case throughout history Towny.
I’m confused as to why an individual cannot get their head around it.
The King’s wife is known as the Queen.
Henry VIII had numerous queen’s but I cannot recall a Queen Consort.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
Simple Barney, I like millions of others do not recognise her as deserving of this title, the fact that Charles dishes out titles like they are hot cross buns just goes to show how out of touch he is with those who pay for his upkeep. It also demonstrates how fragile the whole institution has become.
Give him is due, he is trying to modernise the Monarchy/Church in that they now turn a blind eye to a bit of extramarital hanky-panky. Perhaps his next proclamation will be that he will commission a new set of commandments…albeit a trimmed down version as he has broken most of them.

Fragile Institution ?
Watch the viewing figures for his coronation.
You'll then understand that you represent a minority.
As for the 'hanky panky'
Know anyone , friend or family who is divorced ?
Let Ye who is without sin, cast the first stone !
The divorce rate in the UK is about 42% currently.
If you don't approve, you must have an ever diminishing circle of friends.
Mrs B and I are both on second marriages and we don't feel 'tarnished' in any way.
We're just delighted to have found the 'One'

The viewing figures were comparable to that which the Grand National attracts around the world…but I can see the comparison between the two.barney wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 13:55Fragile Institution ?

I don’t dispute the divorce rate Barney but I can honestly say in my dwindling circle of friends I know not of any who have been divorced…catch!!
I’m very pleased for both you and Mrs B

Re: Current Affairs 2023
We cannot compare the viewing figures for the coronation simply because he's not been crowned yet!!! But if you are comparing interest in the Royal Family with the Grand National the closest we can get is the Queen's funeral in which case it's akin to you riding a donkey against a thoroughbred.Onelife wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 14:50

The figures I have just picked up are 8.8 million globally for the Grand National against 94 billion for the Queen's funeral. Even the UK figures eclipse the Grand National with at least an estimate of 28 million. Clippety clop, see you ate the finishing post

There's two different sorts of Queens. A Queen Regnant, who ascended the throne in her own right. There have been 6 of those in English history. such as Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria.Onelife wrote: 05 Apr 2023, 21:36Even with my basic education I know that the title of “Queen” is/should only be used by those who have ascended to the throne through the hereditary line of succession…but hey!...Where the Royals are concerned they can make it up as they go along.barney wrote: 05 Apr 2023, 21:16I’m in.

Then there's the other sort of Queen, the Queen Consort, who is the wife of the King. There's been a lot more of those types of Queens in history.

Since Edward and his wife are taking on more appointments as working royals (largely due to Harry spitting his dummy out and clearing off) Charles has promoted him by giving him his father's title.screwy wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 15:00What are all these ‘Titles’ The King has been dishing out.?
