If I am not mistaken it was the late Prince Philip's wish that his youngest son inherited the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

Mrs B and I are both on second marriages and we don't feel 'tarnished' in any way.
We're just delighted to have found the 'One'
You are not mistaken, that is indeed the case.david63 wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 15:24If I am not mistaken it was the late Prince Philip's wish that his youngest son inherited the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
You are correct Gill the monarchs spouse is termed as Queen or Prince consort, which is presumably why the late Queen proclaimed that it should also apply to Camilla once Charles was King. However throughout history they have never been called consort, Philip and Albert were always referred to as Prince. I suspect the coronation invitations have deliberately been announced to shame the republican media into ceasing this idiotic reference to Camilla as Queen consort.Gill W wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 15:13There's two different sorts of Queens. A Queen Regnant, who ascended the throne in her own right. There have been 6 of those in English history. such as Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Victoria.Onelife wrote: 05 Apr 2023, 21:36Even with my basic education I know that the title of “Queen” is/should only be used by those who have ascended to the throne through the hereditary line of succession…but hey!...Where the Royals are concerned they can make it up as they go along.barney wrote: 05 Apr 2023, 21:16I’m in.
It’s quite normal for a King’s wife to be known as Queen.
Anyone with a basic education would know that.![]()
Then there's the other sort of Queen, the Queen Consort, who is the wife of the King. There's been a lot more of those types of Queens in history.

Got mine David.
Perhaps you got caught trying to goose Camilla. That sort of thing tends to be frowned upon.....so Ray tells me.

I’m expecting a lot more at my funeral Foxyoldbluefox wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 15:11We cannot compare the viewing figures for the coronation simply because he's not been crowned yet!!! But if you are comparing interest in the Royal Family with the Grand National the closest we can get is the Queen's funeral in which case it's akin to you riding a donkey against a thoroughbred.Onelife wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 14:50
The viewing figures were comparable to that which the Grand National attracts around the world…but I can see the comparison between the two.![]()
I don’t dispute the divorce rate Barney but I can honestly say in my dwindling circle of friends I know not of any who have been divorced…catch!!
I’m very pleased for both you and Mrs B![]()
The figures I have just picked up are 8.8 million globally for the Grand National against 94 billion for the Queen's funeral. Even the UK figures eclipse the Grand National with at least an estimate of 28 million. Clippety clop, see you ate the finishing post![]()

Btw…you can chomp on this while I’m gone…It is estimated 10 million people watch the Grand National online and on TV in the UK each year. Globally, the Grand National viewing figures are thought to hit around 500 million.

Don't forget your donkey

I think what you may have shown is how many Royalists also enjoy racing, the sport of kings.

I’m not sure if that is statistically correct Foxy but there are an awful lot of "mugs" who keep the Kings enjoying the sport they love…one day you’ll all wise up and see how you are throwing your money away.oldbluefox wrote: 06 Apr 2023, 17:36Don't forget your donkey![]()

The cost of the Monarchy is about £1.50 per head of the population per year. I bet plenty of punters lose more than that on the National!

Excessive in the extreme, especially when you consider their own personal wealth… throw in the tax breaks then they are doing very well for themselves…even their little sprogs are millionaires.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 07 Apr 2023, 17:46The cost of the Monarchy is about £1.50 per head of the population per year. It was until the revolution brought about the change from one corrupt political system to the corrupt system they have now…300 years later we (UK) still have a corrupt political system with a Monarchy that survives off the back of it..

0ptimism isn’t a word most on the forum would attribute to me but if there is a better way forward than that of the “better the devil we know” style of politics then I would give it my backing…we can of course carry on with our present system which has stagnated progressive politics to the point that in many areas we are going backwards not forward.

Keefie, spreading the entire wealth of all the Royals among the general poulation is hardly going to give anyone enough to have a good day out at the races, so what's the point.Onelife wrote: 07 Apr 2023, 19:10Excessive in the extreme, especially when you consider their own personal wealth… throw in the tax breaks then they are doing very well for themselves…even their little sprogs are millionaires.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 07 Apr 2023, 17:46The cost of the Monarchy is about £1.50 per head of the population per year. Well, this is what I think about doctors going on strike…unfurtunatly I’ll have to leave it there as Mob has been working overtime deleting my posts this past week.
Who the hell do they think they are demanding an increase of 35%...whilst their starting pay may be on the low side, they, unlike many PhD professions rarely attain the levels of pay a doctor can earn.
They’ll be no beeping the horn from me.
