Re: Survival . . .
Around 2002 there was a great story on cruise critic. Apparently some person sat up on deck by the pool yelling into his mobile phone for most of the day .. the usual irrelevant nonsense 'guess what I am doing', 'guess who has a cocktail', 'guess what we are doing later' etc. etc.
Apparently after several days, and the fact the pool deck happened to be very busy, nobody saw who it was that threw the phone in the pool.

Re: Survival . . .
I think taking loudly into mobile phones in public is an attention seeking thing.
Many years ago, when mobile phones were the size of a house brick and they were rare, it was a status symbol to have a mobile.
Deep down, some people still think this, hence the need to draw attention to themselves when they are on their mobiles.

It's like people on trains, do I really want to hear what the person six seats in front of me is telling their Aunty Doris ..... Nooooo
My favourite though has to be the supermarket queue ( not ) when the whole queue is held up while someone tells the person at the other end of the phone they are in Sainsbury/Tesco or wherever just going through the checkout ... why on earth do they have to answer it in the first place !!

It infuriates me when someone gets on to a bus , fiddles around for the bus fare whilst still talking on their phone.
It is pure ignorance to continue talking whilst at a checkout .

I do my shopping, banking and much more on-line. Unfortunately I am useless with computers. Luckily I have a husband who worked in computer hardware and a son who studies computer software. Between them they keep me right

To me a large proportion of the population have gone slighly bonkers.....I think people are talking to themselves....I have often replied to someone who ain't actually talking to me...they are on their mobile....I guess they think that I'm the nutty one.

My dearl old mum does not have a mobile phone, she does not have internet access, she does not have a computer. She refuses to use ATMs and the last time she drove a car was about 50 years ago.
She is currently on holiday abroad, and a month after she gets back will be away on holiday again.
She not only survives, she appears to thrive!
That said, I don't doubt that some aspects of her life would be made easier if she chose to "embrace" the 21st century.
