The BBC commissioned a poll on how popular the Monarchy is today. As it's easier to make a story, the media thrive on any negativity and stories from 'those that know' giving questionable information on the royals.
As we approach the Coronation more and more of this negativity is coming across.
Why, when the moment arrives and we coronate the new King and Queen, the lead up to this momentous occasion is being railroaded by the media, instead of building up to a joyful occasion to be enjoyed by all, they continue to (in my words) to poke fun and downplay the event.
No doubt on the day following the coronation their pages will be overflowing with pictures and congratulations. A week later back to normal.
The younger generation lean to an elected head of state. Easily lead at that age. Only need to look at how elected leaders of our country perform now, is that the future they want?
Rambling on a bit but there it is.

Think of the positives Ray…. Harry and lovely Meghan are being given a bit of breathing space  …one should always remember…when you take one target out of the firing range the media will always replace it with another…excellent choice if you “will” mind me saying.

As for the younger generations who see this archaic institution as nothing more than privileged landed gentry owning large swathes of the country including large part of the coast, some of the most valuable real estate in central London then who can blame them…. Inherited wealth is one thing. Inherited wealth bolstered by taxpayers’ money is another.

All that being said if they could be given a job that gives them a personal wealth of £1,815 bn, plus free luxury travel anywhere in the world + free board a lodging’s, the right to avoid paying certain taxes…then they might well think differently.

Thankfully they’ve seen the light. :D

Are you planning on scrapping the Church given that they own more than the Crown Estates ?

Being an Atheist I would ban every Church, Mosque, Synagogue or any other place of worship …which lets face it is based on the fear of the unknown….

“And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die”.

If like me Mob you have lived an honest life one should not fear what if anything comes after death.

P’s When you think of it, both the Church and King Charles have a lot in common…they both stole from the poor to give to the rich.

Nah, I wasn’t thinking of that but the odds would suggest that there is some truth in what you are implying :)

The thing is Keith, after the Coronation you will have nothing to say on the proceedings as no doubt you will be as far away from a TV or radio as you can be. It does give you time to to expand on another subject or introduce something new.

The younger generation have always had more radical left wing views, but most grow out of it once they grow up.

There probably is some truth in what you say Ray but please be assured the abolishment of the Monarchy will always be close to my heart, I will however take some satisfaction in knowing that I have left you all believing that perhaps there is some basis for onelifes opinions…let he/she who disagrees speak first. :)

As for opening the forums eyes to different viewpoints I will always endeavour to do so in my own unassuming nonconfrontational style.

With regard to the posting of more topics I think you will find (David can confirm) dear old Onelife has probably posted more threads than anyone else on the forum, which, if found to be true, one would hope David will give recognition to this and promote me to whatever rank sits above Admiral  :D

Thanks for your contribution John…now why don’t you try coming up with something more original while showing more respect for those who will shape our countries future. On that note, I think we would be hard pressed to tell the youth of today that we have left them with a good platform from which they can build from.

It may not be original, and it may not be what the left wingers want to hear, but it has been proved to be fairly accurate throughout time. Radical politics is for the young and the misfits like Corbyn.

Since when was being on the Left considered radical?
You’re sure going to be upset when the ‘radicals’ form the next government 😉

If it ranks above Stephen’s “Admiral” then I’ll take it…btw… did Mob suggest that one, as I know he’s up to his neck with pigeon’s sh*t at the moment

This is perfectly true. The King of the day and the Church of the day divvied up the entire Country between them. This however was in the 13th century so maybe it's time you moved on

I did not say that the labour party was Radical, it is left wing but it also has a number of members who are extremely left wing, who could be described as radical. Fortunately they dont normally have a major say in policy, except for the Corbyn fiasco. Many of the younger members also exhibit radical views, but as I commented this dissipates over time as they mature.
If Starmers Govt has similar policies to the Blair regime then I will not be too unhappy, and I doubt I will too bothered with the there being no money left as they leave office, if I am still around then dementia might have set in and I probably wont even notice.

I think that the Starmer administration will be very similar to Blair.
He has some good people available.
As long as he can keep Rayner in the background, they should be okay.
This government has run its course.
Time to let someone else muck up.

I rate most of the shadow cabinet over the government cabinet.
I will obviously add that the proof of the pudding etc, but it would be incredible if they matched this government’s level of incompetence.

It is true to say the labour party were radical, and thank gawd they were. If the Labour party movement hadn’t made a stand, then the working man/women wouldn’t have had voice. Whilst Starmer does play the party game I think there is more substance and integrity in his leadership qualities than that of the present leader. Moving on one hundred years political parties still have their radicals, some seek to control some seek to make change but both work within a political system that has no direction imo.
