Have to win all our remaining games to (maybe) be in the play-offs, if only we had consistency

Re: Football 22/23
I watched the ' highlights ' on SKY. For those who didn't see them there was an announcement towards the end of the game that Orient were promoted. It was also the case that the Gills were mathematically safe from relegation due to them being 2:0 up at the time.barney wrote: 18 Apr 2023, 21:58Comfortable win against the leaders tonight.

The players stopped playing footy, they all just danced about kicking the ball to and fro to anybody and everybody, they kissed, cuddled and hugged everybody in sight such was their collective delight. Never seen anything like it ... brilliant

Re: Football 22/23
It certainly was odd.
Ten minutes to go the lights went out.
It wasn’t a stadium issue but the local area.
By the time they came back on, the other matches had finished and Orient became aware that they were promoted.
So, the ref restarted by giving the ball back to us and Orient decided not to challenge for it so we kept it for six minutes.
Eventually, one of our youngsters got bored and decided to attack, which gave Orient no option but to play again.
Two minutes later, the ref blew up.
Gills gave them the respect of letting the players and fans celebrate on our pitch.
Our fans went home grinning.
This morning, my office looked like someone had a party in it.
Beer bottles , wine glasses and empty bags of crisps

Re: Football 22/23
I see that most of our teams got a point or three today.
Particularly Leicester, an unexpected win.
For Gills, totally dominated the first half but only one up.
It was obvious that Bradford would throw the kitchen sink and they did.
Then a much deserved equaliser very late in the game after their keeper made a hat trick of saves from Tom Nichols.
All in all, a point away is always a good point.

You forgot to also mention that Bradford had been on good form recently, I guess they are getting anxious now as they get close to the automatic promotion places.barney wrote: 22 Apr 2023, 20:02I see that most of our teams got a point or three today.

Re: Football 22/23
What a difference we saw yesterday from the Foxes. Gone was the negative tippy tappy around the back possession football and in its place one touch passing at pace. It was thrilling to watch and all the more so when you realise many in the team were Rodgers' cast offs who couldn't get a start.
I just hope we can maintain the momentum against Leeds and Everton and it wasn't a one off.
Palace could have done us a favour by taking all three points from Everton.

Leicester's goal difference is worth another point and that's thanks to us, partly.
Congratulations to Wrexham who after 15 years have been promoted to the EFL from the superb competition that is the National League.

Hopefully, league two will get a bit more publicity with Hollywood joining the ranks.paultheagle wrote: 23 Apr 2023, 13:14Leicester's goal difference is worth another point and that's thanks to us, partly.

As much as I admire what they have accomplished, they have blown away everyone else with a level of spending most lower level clubs could only dream of.
Next season, they come under EFL scrutiny and rules.
I still expect them to do very well.
Probably finishing second to the Gills

Never mind all you also rans, Leek Town are in the playoffs in the Northern Premier League.
(As opposed to Leek United, who aren't, because they're a building society).

Interesting piece in today’s Guardian about a Watford fan not renewing his season ticket because of a disconnection between the club, owner, team and the fans.

No need ... there is certainly a known and accepted problem but it is, according to recent published reports from our new Director of Football, being addressed.barney wrote: 24 Apr 2023, 10:39Interesting piece in today’s Guardian about a Watford fan not renewing his season ticket because of a disconnection between the club, owner, team and the fans.

Some steps have already been taken so maybe the Guardian needs to talk to our other fan

Northern Premier League clubs get promoted to National North.
Did anyone watch the Brighton - Man U semi final. I wished I hadn't. Two hours of life I'll never get back. Palace Women 4. v Lewes Women 1 was a much better game.

Thanks PTE
I recorded it but given the score and report this morning I deleted it, the highlights ( if any ) will of course be on MOTD2.

Well done to Burnley. They were the first club I remember watching on TV -Cup final v Spurs and I can still remember the names of some of their players; Blacklaw, Elder, Pointer & Connelly. Watching them get the title after guaranteeing promotion was a bit like watching a stumbling runner at the end of a marathon. Wish them well in the top flight next season.

Plymouth are just about over the line as well.
They may do okay in the Championship.
Quite a decent ground which sells out most weeks and an enthusiastic fan base.
Walking around Plymouth, you don’t see many other clubs shirts.

This years FA Cup Final between City and the other Premier League club from Manchester will kick off at 3pm as requested by Met Police. At last after 12 years the cup final is back to it's traditional time.
