King Charles lll Coronation

Unread post by Onelife »

Members of the public watching the coronation have been asked to cry out and swear allegiance to the new King, marking the first time they have been given an active role in the ancient ceremony.
Lambeth Palace said it hoped the newly introduced Homage of the People will result in a ā€œgreat cry around the nation and around the world of support for the Kingā€ from those watching on television at home, in community spaces, or online.
During the ceremony, the Archbishop will ask ā€œall persons of goodwill in The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of the other Realms and the Territories to make their homage, in heart and voice, to their undoubted King, defender of allā€.
The order of service will read: ā€œAll who so desire, in the Abbey, and elsewhere, say together:

ā€œAll: I swear that I will pay true allegiance to Your Majesty, and to your heirs and successors according to law. So help me God.
….

This gets more ridiculous by the day…take a bow everyone

Not really something new - it was done way back in ancient times, so it seems like a good idea to revive it.

(I believe those who refuse are being sent straight to the Tower, never to be seen again    )

No more ridiculous than a load of Republicans waving placards and chanting Not my King, especially being humiliated by being drowned out by a load of school kids.
Whilst I acknowledge there are those who have views different to mine I have little time for those who set out to spoil an occasion because of their disagreement.
I was taught to be cautious

I appreciate everyone is entitled to their opinion as is Onelife. However, I'm a monarchist and am really looking forward to watching the Coronation so I think I'll have to skip looking at this thread. I won't change Onelife's opinion and he won't change mine so I'll enjoy watching all the ceremony and I'm sorry he won't. I have met Camilla and a more down to earth person you wouldn't meet. I think she'll do a great job and it's what Queen Elizabeth wanted so that's good enough for me.

Oh’ for gawd sake, please tell me that David isn’t going to screen the whole pantomime on this forum…that’ll be two of us not tuning into this forum if that happens?
Hi Carole, I’m starting to see you as the voice of reason on this forum which is why I will now leave this thread in order that you, along with your other forum Monarchist, can enjoy the build up to this pantomime historic event…I’ll be back a week on Tuesday to have another laugh…Oh! Yes’, I will.

Enjoy!

I agree with you on this point.

I had hoped that Charles was going to be a reforming monarch, and would make the Crown relevant to the 21st century.

But this idea of swearing loyalty to the King is positively Medieval

This doesn't suddenly make me a republican, but, at a time when many are questioning the existence of the monarchy, makes me think that the people who came up with this idea haven't 'read the room'

A very good programme on BBC last night about Charles growing up.
He’ll be a good King.
Interesting that since he set up the Prince’s Trust in 1976, it has helped over 1 million young people.

Countryfile this week also featured King Charles. It's hardly surprising that he is held in such high regard up here in Cumbria, not only amongst the farming community but also amongst the local community especially after the floods we had a few years ago.
Princess Anne also frequently visits to a centre for the disabled. You won't find it reported in the press but locally it is well known.

Nothing wrong at all.

I swore the same allegiance when I joined the Army.

That's a good chap Stephen, is this the new born again you.

We watched the Repair Shop which we recorded months ago with the then Prince Charles. How relaxed and friendly he came across. Also shown was some of the work chances given to young adults to learn old skills that whilst in great demand are also in danger of being lost.
Jay Blades seemed at home with almost an old friend as he joked and grabbed Charles on the arm, it was relaxing to watch.
Don't worry, be happy

That's a great read, but I guess Onelife will say its fiction and not a true reflection of the love and affection in which she is held both in the USA and the UK.
