The main justification for privatising water companies was specifically so the govt did not have to fund all the billions needed to bring the infrastructure up to date. However this will have necessitated the private companies having to raise the money from the market, whose lenders will expect an adequate return on their investment. So it's no Good complaining about shareholders reaping the reward.

How the hell do water companies get away with it. If other utility companies step out of line they’re jumped on straight away. It beggars belief that they can cause deliberate pollution at a time when we are trying to reduce it and then to rub salt further in the wound expect the customer to pick up the bill for cleaning it up.

And why aren’t the government jumping on this and bringing them to book and saying ‘your mess, you clean it up AND pay for it’.

Good on ya barney, I do. think the public are now starting to get the message with all the news coverage. Problem is, when the headlines start to move on will people start to forget the problem still exists, may be a reminder will come when the bills with thier payment to clean up the mess start dropping through the doors.

She didn't try to evade her punishment, she asked if she could take the course on a 1:1 basis, which it transpires you can do. She asked a civil servant to look into it for her which has created the issue. Surely the answer would be yes you can or no you can't so why is it making headlines in the papers and on TV other than there are those who are making a big issue out of nothing and looking to unseat her?
I fail to see what the problem is. Surely there are more important things to be concerning us or have I got it all wrong?

She was also only a few mph over a 30 limit. Unlike Manchester's Labour Mayor doing almost 80 in a 40 limit, which attracted no comment from Sir Hypocrite.

It's making headlines because it's another case of a government minister breaking the ministerial code and wanting special treatment. She wasn't working when she was caught speeding, she gets driven everywhere in a posh car so she should not have asked her civil servant to look into a private course, it's not their job, Why didn't she just own up and be say yes I've done it and paid the fine, just like the rest of us have to do. This isn't the first case of her making the wrong call either is it. Wasn't there a kerfuffle regarding her and e mails a little while ago.

It's not Civil Servants jobs to leak government business to the press either, but it doesn't seem to stop them.

It is, for me, a breach of confidence by a Civil Servant. It also shows the gutter level of informers that are attracted to the Labour Party and its supporters within the Press.

Let’s say that she had been offered the speed awareness course and had been the room with half a dozen or so others. What if one of them made to assault her or god forbid worse. The same people complaining now would be asking why she was put in that position.

Sir Hypocrite is storing up trouble for himself by the way he is reacting to issues leaked by Leftie Civil Servants instead of condemning them for breach of the Official Secrets Act. He forgets there are right wing Civil Servants who will be awaiting their turn if/when he is in Downing Street. He won't be able to blow his nose without someone finding fault and bleating to the Tory press.

You do need to be squeaky clean in government, anything else, the news hounds and Mr Hindsights party are out to score. No matter how small the transgressions may be, when it comes one after the other, it looks bad on the party. The conservatives have had many months of explaining these transgressions much to their embarrassment. Did it all start with someone driving up north to see if his eyesight was safe to drive.

The Tories will do exactly the same when they are in opposition. They will say anything to dis credit the government.

And the arrogant unprofessional Civil Servants will feed them confidential leaks like they are Labour.

Two lads involved in a car crash, happens quite regularly. Question is, why did this kick off and end in a riot. It does seem that a young person under certain conditions can suddenly turn into a wild animal. Now for the punishments to the ones involved, come down hard on them, not a slap on the wrist. Unbelievable behavior.
