Tis true. He was recently ' released ' by Birmingham City, a footballer's life is very short me thinks.
ps ... a certain Mr Potter is reportedly heading for the Palace.

Poor old Barnsley, they survive from the 50th minute with ten men, through to the last second of extra time, and then concede a winner to Sheff Wednesday.

Some of our fans are getting totally deluded Moby, and linking us with Troy Deeney !Manoverboard wrote: 30 May 2023, 06:45Tis true. He was recently ' released ' by Birmingham City, a footballer's life is very short me thinks.

If only !!
Because our new owner has a few bob (and some) some are getting totally carried away.
I remember back in 2012 when we signed Deon Burton in the twilight of his career and he was absolute quality and waded in with some crucial goals in our champions season.

So we are after Graham Potter are we? Apparently we are also after Steve Cooper ( he's almost certain according to one report I've read), Brendan Rodgers (yes please), Frank Lampard and Roy will be given a one year contract.
Don't mind any of them, at least they are all British. We will have to wait and see who our next manager will be. Whoever he is it will be a privilege for him to work at the best club in the country, bar none.

The only thing guaranteed Paul, is that half of your fans will be accepting and the other half will be critical.paultheagle wrote: 30 May 2023, 15:00So we are after Graham Potter are we? I’m always a believer in giving a guy a chance.
I was against Steve Evans coming to Gills, but once appointed, gave my total support.
He had two good seasons before falling out with the owner and downing tools.

When we appointed Neil Warnock to try and achieve the impossible of keeping us in the Championship, there were no dissenting voices at all, and the praise when he managed it was unanimous.

Re: Football 22/23
Thank you for those few kind words Foxy, and commiserations over the demise of Leicester City. We had one loan player, Marvellous Nkamba, who everyone wants to keep, but Aston Villa will probably price him beyond our reach. Of course Leicester also have a player who did well on loan at Luton, he may want to get back into the Premiership.oldbluefox wrote: 27 May 2023, 20:02Great match to decide who goes up to the Prem. Coventry and Luton gave it their all and in the end it was a pity that either had to lose. There was some great football played, even for a neutral like me. In the end penalties decided it.
Drinks are on Frank tonight chaps and chappesses! Congratulations to Luton, pack 'em into them chicken sheds!!!
As for chicken sheds. Well we've been in the first division before, twice. So it should not be too much of a shock for the prima donnas to play at a real football ground. I first attended The Kenny in October 1954 and watched us beat Derby County 2 nil! The team has a good relationship and as we saw there is no lack of skill. If they can stay up for three seasons Power Court might be ready for them. Everyone seems to be betting against them, we shall see. COYMH

I bet Hornets are missing Super Robbie Edwards.Manoverboard wrote: 29 May 2023, 08:39Bad luck Foxy but it was on the cards, a rebuild for us both is the way to go
I deffo wanted Everton to go down and can't believe their winner was scored by an ex Hornet![]()
As I live not a million miles from Southampton I had a front row seat to the trials of Nathan Jones at Southampton. I think Nathan completely lost the plot, because a part of his success at Luton had been built on the counsel of Mick Harford. Big Mick is still at the Kenny helping Rob Edwards.

Re: Football 22/23
Not al all.
Rob is a good old boy and it's clear to see that the Hatters worked their socks off for him.
At Watford he just talked the talk. The players were feigning injury, were too old and too experienced at the higher levels to carry him so without their support he was hung out to dry.
It's a better fit for him at Luton and I do wish him well

Re: Football 22/23
Postecoglou to Spurs then. Rodgers has been touted as his replacement
but as one supporter said, he's a good coach but if he can't have his own way he loses interest and loses the dressing room. After what happened to us that sounds about right.
It will be interesting to see who is appointed to Celtic and how Postecoglou fares at Spurs.
No idea who we are getting at City. I just hope it's not another ponderous tippy tappy disciple boring our back teeth off on the way to League One.

Re: Football 22/23
I watched an interview with our newly departed captain Stuart O’Keefe yesterday and he was talking about our previous manager losing the dressing room and pretty much downing tools because the chairman couldn’t/wouldn’t give him what he wanted.
To the degree where he played a centre half up front to emphasise the point that he needed a striker.
Once you’re at that point, the manager has to go.

Re: Football 22/23
For us that decision was made far too late. I think because of the contract he was on it would have cost us too much so we were stuck with him and hoping we could pull it right. It was a costly mistake.barney wrote: 06 Jun 2023, 07:27I watched an interview with our newly departed captain Stuart O’Keefe yesterday and he was talking about our previous manager losing the dressing room and pretty much downing tools because the chairman couldn’t/wouldn’t give him what he wanted.

Villa got it right.

Stuart O' Keefe an ex Palace player. A midfielder who never stopped running. He played for us in 2013 Play Off Final. Not good enough for the Prem.

Re: Football 22/23
Yeah he talked about that in his interview Paul.
He left Southend to Palace because he hadn’t been paid and before he knew it he was in the Premier League.
He had a nasty injury just before the squad was announced and knew from then that his time was up.
On recovery, went on loan to Pompey, MK and Plymouth before settling at Gillingham.
I’m sure he’ll get a decent offer somewhere, probably still in league two.
100% effort at all times.
Unfortunately he was competing with Sean Williams and Tim Dieng who have a bit more class and vision.
He said playing in that team was easy because you just knocked it wide to Zaha or Bolasie and they stuck it on Glen Murray’s head. Easy game !

Re: Football 22/23
I don’t usually post on this topic but thought I’d give you a little bit of trivia for the football fans on the forum especially the Luton Town supporters. My son who has a memory of things I’ve long forgotten reminded me that his father was the Planning Inspector appointed to hold the Public Inquiry into the planning application for the Kohlerdome to replace the Kenilworth Road ground back in the 1990’s. His recommendation to the Secretary of State was outline approval dependent on access from the M1 being improved. The Department of the Environment agreed with his findings but when the Labour government gained power in 1997 they had no intention of widening or improving the M1 to provide this access. The approval was withdrawn and David Kohler appealed to the High Court but it was was thrown out.

Congratulations to West Ham on winner Euro Conference League.
Another club that kept the faith with their manager when the fans wanted him sacked get the reward they deserve.
Man City's turn next.

Funny you mention they kept faith in their manager when you sacked yours and it was Woy who turned your fortunes round. He did a good job for you.

It's just you mentioned "Another club that kept the faith in their manager...." seemingly as a positive. Not sure why you mentioned that.
There are many clubs who have done very well by changing their manager, Palace included. We got rid of our manager too late.

Re: Football 22/23
I mentioned that because the West Ham board stayed with David Moyes when it would have been easier to sack him earlier in the season. Because of that they got their reward. That is a positive.oldbluefox wrote: 08 Jun 2023, 06:54It's just you mentioned "Another club that kept the faith in their manager...." seemingly as a positive. Not sure why you mentioned that.

Why did you mention Palace? They've got nothing to do with this. Yes Roy did well but we would have stayed up if Patrick was still there and Leicester would still be Premier League if they had shown some faith in......
