Re: Current Affairs 2023
We almost always have a drink or two and often something to eat when in a port.
Sitting in the sun with a Tinto Verano and some Manchego with Iberico ham is heaven.
Fish cakes with cheese inside and a glass of port in Porto is heaven.
Pastel de nata and a coffee in the sun is heaven.
Bocadillo de jamon with a cold beer in the sun is heaven.
Tortilla de Camerones in Cadiz is heaven.
All part of the experience for us.

Beer in the rain in Bergen at £40 a pint is overrated.

Indeed it is Merv, but the cafes do coffee and cakes similar in price to home if you go back a street or two. I have never had a beer in Norway because of the price.
I may be wrong but was told the price of alcohol in Norway has something to do with the long dark winter nights and alcoholism.
Don't worry, be happy

Re: Current Affairs 2023
Actually reflecting back on my earlier post we do sometimes buy a coffee and cake or similar ashore, even a whole pizza in Rome. It's main meals we generally don't. Partly because we've already paid for full board on the ship but also because I put on enough weight on board over a cruise I'm not sure I have capacity for extra meals ashore.

Re: Current Affairs 2023
Todays lead news story on the BBC is that 104,500 households are living in temporary accomodation but since there are 28 2m housetholds in the UK hat figure is a tiny 0.37% of households. However since nett immigration is running at 600,000pa then I am absolutely amazed that the number in temp accomodation is so low. But not the BBC who seem to consider this a monumental failure of govt housing policy, I do hope that when they manage to get Keir Starmer elected they won't be too unhappy that he won't be increasing their funding.

Does the number in temporary accommodation include those on holiday?

How many more will follow. I guess it depends if they need the revenue from cruise tourism or not.

Not really. I saw the same report in other places. It appears the Council wants to ban cruise ships but the port authority disagrees and they're fighting about it. The second link doesn't say it won't happen. It says it hasn't happened yet. The earlier report also says it will close, not that it has.Chalgrave4 wrote: 25 Jul 2023, 15:17BBC Jumping the gun again ?Stephen wrote: 21 Jul 2023, 07:30Amsterdam bans cruise ships.

Seems at bit strange that he is wasting the last remnants of his mother's money on this when it is reported that they are rapidly running out of cash

I had the same thought David.
And if he loses the case what then when he gets hit with the bill.

Even if he wins the media will have him in their sights. I thought he was seeking the quiet life away from the trappings of the Royal Family and Press intrusion . He has done nothing since he left but to court publicity in the most dramatic fashion.
I was taught to be cautious

It's the only way he can keep his name at the forefront so that he can write another book to earn a couple of crusts!oldbluefox wrote: 27 Jul 2023, 13:54He has done nothing since he left but to court publicity in the most dramatic fashion.

I think they are in danger of becoming victims of diminishing interest. There is only so much whingeing you can do before people lose interest and already the Americans are getting restless with their perpetual moaning.
He should have done what he said he wanted and just find somewhere out in the sticks away from her celebrity friends and enjoy a quiet lifestyle out of the public gaze.

Trouble with living tucked out the way with the red necks Foxy is, he might then have to get a job like the rest of us.
