someone had been told they didn't need to declare something by an insurance agent
I have seen policies where it states that no new conditions need to be declared during the period of that insurance.
Mine very specifically says I must tell them of anything new during the period of the insurance. But equally if anything does come up it doesn't affect any trips already booked.

I thought you were with Staysure, in which case they cancelled our annual insurance when we had to declare a new illness, leaving us to sort out insurance for 3 existing holidays.

Staysure. I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole.

They were the ones we had last year, done the same as Merv, Natwest this year.
Don't worry, be happy

Fortunately we've never had to claim, which would be the ultimate test. But so far so good. When I had a major heart op and treatment for Prostate Cancer in 2020 (a memorable year) the increase in premium to cover both the following year was well under £200, which I thought was pretty good for 12 months worldwide cover. And they meet all the cruise company criteria.

Ours is with Flexicover - which was pretty much identical in provision and cost as the one P&O offer. But with the addition of Formal wear cover!

I spent an hour this morning adding a condition for which I'd been signed off some years ago, but having read the newspaper article thought it best to declare. Luckily it didn't add to the premium.

As we all know you only discover if your insurance co. is any good when you need to claim - so quite happy never to find out personally!

So far LV have been very good.
When we recently had to cancel a cruise and a UK land base holiday due to a family bereavement they couldn’t have been more helpful. No quibble and prompt payout.
