Daft decision ?
Irish council approves motion to allow rural drink-driving
Ok, I know the chances of drink drivers getting caught would be small and that the roads are probably close to being deserted, but surely this is sending out a very bad message. If you can afford to go out and drink you can afford to get a taxi home.

It is sending out a message to say that it's OK to drink and drive then. These roads are probably speed de-restricted so can you imagine someone over the limit bombing along and some poor unfortunate is in the wrong place at the wrong time? Madness.

Is this for real? I think there should be a total ban on anyone driving even after 1 drink - if they need the social aspect of a visit to the pub what's wrong with having a soft drink or alcohol free?

Absolutely ridiculous..... they dont have to do the clearing up when the have accidents etc.... If you drive you should not drink is my view.... get a taxi or designated driver. And in any case more likely than not you will have to be on a main road before you get to a county lane, well you do where I live.

When we go out we book a taxi, on the odd occasion that we have taken the car if my husband then decides he wants a drink we will leave the car at the pub and pick it up the following day.
