Why are N. Ireland politicians still being paid, and why only now is a pay cut being proposed, and why is it not 100% rather than the proposed 27.5%?

No idea - they should have stopped being paid from day 1, in my opinion.

It's a ridiculous situation which has gone on for far too long. If they're not prepared to take their seats give them up and vote in somebody who will. Meanwhile it's the people of N Ireland who suffer from their petulant behaviour.

I noticed that the two most watched programs on TV over Christmas were the Kings Speech and the Coronation documentary.

You nearly spoilt my Christmas with that Barney, but then I realised your Kings Speech was 2 million viewers less that what his mother attracted back in 2021…it’s a growing trend so I believe :D

Don’t build your hopes up Slapstick, the percentage of Monarchy supporters has decreased year on year…mostly due to my work I may add  :D

"Only three in 10 Britons think the monarchy is “very important”, the lowest proportion on record, a poll shows as the king’s coronation approaches.

A survey by the National Centre for Social Research (NatCen) shows public support for the monarchy has fallen to a historic low. A total of 45% of respondents said either it should be abolished, was not at all important or not very important".

And if you believe that you'll believe anything
I always wonder who these people ask since they have never asked me nor anyone I know. If you ask the right question to the right people you will get the answer you are looking for.

In other words "lies, damn lies and statistics"

Perhaps this may give some food for thought https://d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.net/d ... 0831_W.pdf

Interesting results for Me again and Him and over 50% in support of the Monarchy.

Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrows receive CBE’s.
And about time Kevin was recognised. And in my view he should be getting a Knighthood for what he’s achieved compared to someone opening pub chain.

New Year Honours 2024: Michael Eavis and Jilly Cooper lead list https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-67834723

I completely agree with you Stephen - honouring Kevin Sinfield is long overdue - he is an amazing human being as is Rob raising awareness and funding for MND - it is the cruellest of diseases.
Don’t start me on Liz Truss being “allowed” to put forward a list of her cronies to receive honours

I’m with you Jan. it’s becoming a joke when it comes to dishing out honours.
Turn up for work or know the right people and your up for a gong. It’s the everyday people not the toffs and well known that deserve the recognition.

……..or…..am I just miffed because I was overlooked, yet again :D

Absolutely, a knighthood would've certainly been a fitting reward for such an amazing achievement in raising millions of pounds and more importantly raising awareness of such a cruel disease, having personally witnessed and lost a close friend to it, I can empathise with the hurt.

The only problem nowadays are hounours are given out like sweets, three Lionesses honoured for losing a world cup final for instance

Wait for it :D
