This time it's the film now showing which relates the life of Nicholas Winton who saved the lives of hundreds of Jewish children during the war.
Looking forward to seeing it next week. Has anyone already seen it?

Not sure when we will watch it but I do enjoy true life dramas, especially those of selfless acts of human compassion.

Hi Foxy, what I found most poignant while watching the video clip was when Esther asked if there were anyone else in the audience who owes their life to Mr Winston…one of those who stood up was I presume the daughter of one of the people he saved…. his legacy lives on!

I looked up One Life and it was listed on SKY Store ?

On a similar vein was the Biopic of French mime artiste Marcel Marceau. He was, surprisingly, in the French resistance during the war and saved many hundreds of Jewish children during this period.

We enjoyed it, the film is called ' Resistance '.

Hoping to go to see it this week.
As an aside, we were on a Canberra cruise in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s and as we sat down to dinner we were joined by a family with a son who was a similar age to our children. The usual pleasantries took place and to our surprise we discovered that we lived a couple of miles from each other. We got on well and became friends. It turned out that the husband had been on the last kinder train to leave Europe.
If you have an interest in that period Judith Kerr (Mog & Tiger who came to tea) wrote a series of books about her childhood flight from Germany in three books; When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, A Small Person Far Away and Bombs on Aunt Dainty. They were written for children but are very readable for adults.

These true heroic people from the last great conflict are now sadly nearly all gone, the likes of what I do not think we will ever see again. Certainly not in the numbers that told their stories on TV, of their exploits
that would captivate the viewers .

Just back from seeing it. Enjoyed it. It’s a bit light in detail at the start but gets going and is quite emotional in later parts. The Jonathan Pryce scene is one of my favourites.
It’s the first time we’ve been to the cinema for ages (The Fantastic Flitcrofts was our last jaunt) and enjoyed it (except for the mawkish ads and trailers before the main film.) In our nearest cinema all seats are now recliners &have loads of space not bad for £4.50 each thanks to our friendly meerkat.

I agree Ranchi wholeheartedly. What a lovely film which deals with a harrowing time in history and the dogged determination of Winton and his team in organising the movement of over 600 children. Indeed it is emotional in parts but such was the story of this man.
It was only £4 each for Meerkat supporters with huge reclining seats and plenty of legroom which was a bargain when you can watch such a good film!!
Highly recommended.

On our last cruise we started to watch The Duke on the in cabin film channel. Unfortunately Hypnos intervened and we didn’t get a chance to see the end (or the middle, or the bit just after the start!) We had recorded it over the Christmas period and watched it last night. It has a pretty good cast Jim Broadbent, Anna Maxwell Martin, Matthew Goode and Helen Mirren amongst others. It’s a gentle comedy (almost in the Ealing mode) relating to the true story of the theft of a Goya (Duke of Wellington) and subsequent trial. Helen Mirren is excellent as Bunton’s long suffering wife. Her touch is so light that she ads to every scene rather than stealing it.
Overall an enjoyable film & worth a watch when it airs again.
Bunton’s line about reading Conrad’s Heart of Darkness is a gem…for any Geordies!
