You’ve got to feel sorry for Sophie and her five children looking so undernourished… all credit to Sophie for going without.
The report says…Half of families with three children or more will be in poverty by 2028-29, up from a third in 2013-14…. this is good news as it will be a wake-up call to those who think popping kids out like smarties is ok…well it isn’t smart if you can’t feed, dress or provide for the little rug-rats…sorry, but they/she gets no sympathy from me.

The irony of Sophie and her children looking undernourished has not been wasted..... but if you can't feed 'em, don't breed 'em.
In days gone by there weren't the means of preventing pregnancy we have now so there is little excuse. If people want a large family that's fine, but don't expect the state to house and look after them all. It's not fair on the kids who have no choice to be brought into a world of poverty because of hapless parents. They deserve better. (Some parents should never be allowed to have pets, let alone children but that's another matter!!!).

Where are the fathers to all these kids, it mentions one father and claims he doesn't provide financial support, the question is WHY, on benefits I would imagine.
No sympathy for any of them, if they can't provide for their kids take they shouldn't have them simple as that.

This country is on its knees with hard WORKING people unable to keep a roof over their heads and these scroungers want more and more for nothing.

Wouldn't mind betting they've got the latest iPhone and Sky tv though, makes my blood boil.

Slapstick,if the fathers are working they are liable to pay a percentage of their pay depending on how many they have. Failure to pay can lead to child maintenance going after them ,and if found can make the employer (If they are in employment) deduct the payments.

I doubt that drug peddlers are registered in the PAYE system, and somehow I don't think their employer will be taking instruction from any government Dept.

Hi Ray, yes I am aware of the procedure and one can only assume the fathers of all these kids are not on the scene or should I say are on the scene but claiming seperate benefits to defraud the system, including those with a so called disability.

The benefit system is not fit for purpose and needs a major overhaul to stop the fraud entrenched within it.

As you can probably guess it infuriates me when these people claim to be victims, the original idea of the system was to help get over an unforseen period of unemployment, now people think it's a career.

As a full time worker on a normal living income and with the exception of the energy saving reduction paid last year, I've not received a penny from this Government, my mortgage has increased considerably as have utility bill's, food costs ete,etc, yet these clowns are having money thrown at them on an almost weekly basis and still want more.

I'll leave all the extra benefits like the my kids got ADHD crap for another day

Times are hard David, and I’ve had to let the butler go. The trouble is he took the wife with him so I’ll have to down size to a mere six bed house.

My concern is that this… “more children-state pay malarkey” is becoming a generational problem that impacts on society as a whole. I don’t know this for a fact but my guess is that the life chances of those born into parental irresponsibility struggle in many areas of their lives and often end up replicating the choices of that which their parents have made. I do think the government need to take a different approach to our benefits system and in doing so they also need to take a good hard look as to why this is happening. There are far too many deprived areas in this country where it has been easier for the government to turn a blind eye rather than do something about it, this creates generations of benefit claimant’s who see themselves as society’s problem, which to a certain extent I can understand…lack of job opportunities, poor housing/estates… and an acceptance that this is their lot will only create more people seeking government handouts in the future.

Unfortunately the don't work / will not work know how to manipulate the system, no doubt learnt about the way to get benefits from their pal's at the pub. The genuine person who, due to unfortunate circumstances and need the help of the benefits system have to endure the stigma of the benefits office/job centre where you are treated as a rotten smell.
How do I know this? When I claimed for my state pension I received a letter from the pensions asking me to attend in person to the job centre to prove, with my marriage certificate, that I WAS married. Only been married for 35 years then.
Having passed by the bouncer who looked me up and down, but became quite pleasant when I asked where I had to go, I then joined a queue to wait for some hole who spoke to the next person called ,to stand before his podium ,which to my mind he treated with contempt.
How his demeanour changed when it was my turn and I explained my reason for being here. He couldn't do enough for me. As I left him, I heard a sharp gruff NEXT.

I agree with both points, unfortunately genuine claimants are stereotyped and belittled by those who are meant to help.

Those generational claimants could care less, unless like the article points out that their free money is affected.
