Best adverts
Getting away from politics for a while I sometimes feel the adverts are more enjoyable than the programmes themselves.
My favourites are the Arla advert mainly because I identify with it and the AA advert for its pure comedy value.

Going back a bit Foxy, I can still remember the Shell advert for petrol, 'We're going well on Shell Shell Shell'
sung by Bing Crosby.
It kinda gave you a good time feel.

You mean this one Ray. Wait a few second to skip the latest ad.

Re: Best adverts
That's a great call Ray. I hadn't seen that one before. It must have been the days before, we got a telly when, as kids, we used to sit on the wall outside our neighbour next door and watch through the window. I may have seen it but due to circumstances never heard it!!!

On the other hand, worst adverts. I hate the one for a holiday company they use every year which includes a version of the song "It's the most wonderful time of the year." I'm sorry but that song refers to Christmas, not August in Benidorm!

That's the one Stephen, that's what we had on our colour black and white TV in the late 50s I think.

What about "you'll wonder where the yellow went, when you brush you're teeth with Pepsodent".

Loved the Cadburys Dairy Milk advert with the Gorilla playing drums to Phil Collins in the air tonight.

Not forgetting the Esso blee dooler.
Must admit some of the current adverts are so erudite i haven't a clue what they are advertising.

Re: Best adverts
Obviously Smash left an impression with Stephen. We did find Smash extremely handy when we took the kids camping(trailer tent) all over Spain in the 90s.
I did like that Coca-Cola advert Foxy, another classic.
Some of todays adverts are so ridiculous and silly, you just can't imagine someone actually took them to management for approval and sold it to them.

Could afford luxuries like Smash in my yoof Ray. We use to go up to the field picking up the left over spuds once the farmer had finished getting his crop in.

Re: Best adverts
Adverts today rarely have the humour or clever content that ones of old had. One that is really annoying me at the moment, and I can't remember what is being advertised (which is a comment in itself) but that has constant ringing of a doorbell. It's exactly the same as mine and on several occasions I've gone out of the room to do something, heard the doorbell, gone to the door and discovered it was the advert - really annoying. There's also the occasional advert which advertises what I assume is a large company which I've never heard of and which doesn't make clear what service said company provides.
I don't remember the Bing Crosby advert which I think is very good and the Smash advert was always one of my favourites, still makes me smile even though I've seen it many times and know the punch line. Very clever.

A press ‘ad’ rather than a tv ad. One of my all time favourites.

I didn’t see ‘check that the indicator stalk is working’ in the list

Re: Best adverts
This Kit Kat advert was pretty memorable.
There's a Coop advert for funerals on at the moment which always raises a wry smile. The lady talks about her late husband, a large strapping chap and yet at his funeral you see the coffin go past in a motor bike sidecar and it must be all of 4ft 6ins long!! Must have been a Harry Houdini fan.

Or

Did either of those two work?
I’m not really sure how to share pictures on here.

Re: Best adverts
Just going back to my post on the Shell advert, Micheal Holiday also did the Shell advert of which there were a few films made.
Those of us of a certain age may remember Micheal Holiday, he was Britain's answer to Bing Crosby. He had a voice simular to Bings and became very popular. Sadly he had problems handling the fame with his mental health and unfortunately ended it all in his 30s.
I'm a lover of crooners and he was up there with the best of them. You may have heard of one of his hits, 'the story of my life' a Marty Robbins record.
His records don't get played much, but they must be worth a go on Mervs radio show.
