Car Insurance
Anyone had their car insurance renewal recently?
Mine came today and has gone up 73%!!!!
Checked with comparison sites and all around the same - or more.
What is going on?

Re: Car Insurance
We're being ripped off, that's what's going on.
I always ask the company I'm with if that's their best price, and inevitably they come down in price if they want to keep my business, although most of them couldn't care less. And if they don't come down enough in price I say I'll go elsewhere.
I don't trust comparison sites, prefering to go direct.

Car insurance not due until July but yesterday I received home and contents insurance renewal quote - substantial difference to last year. I’ve done a comparison and much the same with other companies. Looks as if it’s an across the board increase for all insurance companies

Stephen, I think they add a margin for a reduction. Every time I get a renewal, I always phone and ask them how much meat is on the bone and how about shaving a bit off. They allways say a price then say they will go and have a word with their supervisor to see if there is room for more.
It's all psychological , you think you have squeezed money out of them.

Re: Car Insurance
Exactly Ray. I have the same games with the breakdown insurance.
My other thought why car insurance prices have risen, although mines not due until June so have no idea how much it will have gone up by, is possibly because of all the pot hole claims.

They claim( pardon the pun) that’s it’s all down to cost increases across the board. Price of parts,Labour ,energy.! All bollocks, just greed. Worst than bloody politicians.

Re: Car Insurance
73%! I thought mine had gone up astronomically but it was just under 50%. A couple of w'eeks prior to receiving the new price I 'd received a letter telling me that all motor insurance policies have risen this year. I was with LV, and I was really sorry to have to change. They've always been easy to deal with, UK customer service, very efficient and polite. However, I have changed, or rather my son-in-law has sorted it for me. I was surprised when I phoned LV to tell them I wouldn't be renewing my policy, that they made no attempt to persuade me to stay, didn't ask what my new quote was, just said, thanks for letting them know. Must be a sign of the times, they didn't bother to try to keep my business.

Re: Car Insurance
As you say Carol, they don't care if you stay or go, money is all they're interested in. No such thing as loyalty these days.
I too am with LV and have been very impressed with their customer service in the past. It'll be shame if I have to change companies come June when my insurance is up for renewal.

Re: Car Insurance
I'm with LV and was shocked when I received my renewal quote. I decided I would go onto the price comparison sites which were cheaper but not a lot so I rang LV and told them how surprised I was at the new year's insurance and was that the best price they could offer me. They went off and came back to say they would knock £40 off which brought them in line with some of the cheapest quotes I had been offered.Stephen wrote: 19 Mar 2024, 11:26As you say Carol, they don't care if you stay or go, money is all they're interested in. I agree though, prices have gone up significantly. I was amazed how much it costs to insure an EV. Saving the planet or not I can't see me switching for a while yet until they get them sorted out.
I was taught to be cautious

Re: Car Insurance
I think it’s more to do with the commission model that they work with. New trade is where the extra £s in your pay packet are. It does seem crazy that if you lose 500 accounts and gain 100 then you will probably get a bigger bonus than if you retained 450 accounts and gained 20 new ones.Stephen wrote: 19 Mar 2024, 11:26As you say Carol, they don't care if you stay or go, money is all they're interested in. One thing that did surprise me was a few years ago I added my daughter to my car insurance (JL) (I only wanted her on for a short time but the agent said I might as well add her for the remainder of the policy - my son was already on the policy). When I asked how much the difference would be the agent said it had reduced and I would be refunded. The explanation was that quotes are made on a daily basis. My initial application must have been on a ‘dear day’ and my alteration on a ‘cheap day.’

Re: Car Insurance
My understanding is that single driver policies are always more expensive than multi driver ones. Mine went up after my wifes stroke, when she could no longer drive, strange but true.
