I thought it was just me that was thinking that.
Me thinks that somebody is choosing to take offence and it certainly is not something that the Met Commissioner should be resigning over.

Me too. I think he was being deliberately provocative, then pleaded innocence with the police man and is now claiming anti semitism.
Had the protesters turned on him, and his mate who was filming the incident I suppose he would have blamed the police for not providing protection for Jewish citizens. The police could not win whatever they did. These people created the situation themselves.

Re: Current Affairs 2024
It is a remarkable coincidence that he accidentally stumbled across a pro-Palestinian demo and that the Campaign Against Anti-semitism were there to film it and post the video on line. I rather think the policeman is the real victim here. Shame the politicians can't see it and call it out for what it is. But of course that would be antisemitic.
Though as I said, remarkable coincidence. A bit like a Liverpool fan wearing their footie strip accidentally finding themselves in the Manchester United stand....

I watched the video a couple of days aga and concur with the opinions above…. he was clearly trying to provoke a confrontation which could easily escalated beyond him wanting to make a point.
My personal view is that we are treading dangerous ground when we facilitate such marches when we know one section of society is going to feel intimidated by the other.

......or use them as a reason for escalating the situation.
Certainly I feel the weekly marches need to be looked at. The cost of policing them alone is costing a small fortune. Can that be sustained?

The answer is simple - those organising the march pay for the policing - after all they have to agree with the police, and other authorities, beforehand so part of that is the cost.oldbluefox wrote: 22 Apr 2024, 06:41Certainly I feel the weekly marches need to be looked at. Socialist Worker might. If there's a bandwagon going past they will jump on it.

I agree with everything that has been said with the Jew and the policeman. Nothing to add except mountain out of a mole hill.

A career policeman with a family will now be scrutinised for trying to protect someone who purposely put himself in danger.

The more I read about this the more it stinks of set up. Shame the police didn't let him walk into the middle of the demo and take his chance.
In other news I see Huw Edwards has now left the BBC. Quite right in the circumstances but what a shame and what a silly boy he's been. He was excellent at his job and he's trashed it.

Re: Current Affairs 2024
The media keep telling us we are in a cost of living crisis however our local 6th form college students don't seem to be suffering.
We live half a mile away and the number of pupils driving their own cars means that both sides of the road are now being used as an overspill for their own cars as the school car park must be full, and the parking covers the same distance in the opposite direction.
It's quite interesting to see the numbers increase as those reaching 17 and passing their test grow.

Yeah, and the lovely Greta blames the older generation for causing climate change. She needs to take a look at her contemporaries. When we were at school I think there was one kid who drove to school, and he lived on a remote farm miles away with no public transport.

Re: Current Affairs 2024
When I was at college there was a patch of rough ground with about 7 or 8 cars on it. I returned a few months ago and there is now a huge car park with hundreds of cars on it and a barrier to check you in and out.
I'm not surprised young people nowadays can't afford a house. Nothing to do with mortgages or the cost of houses. Maybe if they got into the habit of saving more and spending less it may help.
I'm afraid from what I have seen I have little sympathy.

Re: Current Affairs 2024
I would just add of course that nothing was ever proved. The source of the story was the young person in question's family. The young person's lawyer said the story was untrue. The police said no offence had been committed. His wife said he was the person accused but not that he was guilty.
He has said nothing. So all very murky and unsatisfactory.

But presumably he will have a BBC pension, which based on his £480,000 salary should be enough to live on.

PM Rishi Sunak has said both houses cannot go home tonight until they get his answer correct. Be interesting to see if they are still at it when we wake up tomorrow morning.

I rather suspect that by the age that things got a bit naughty e.g. sordid pictures (if any) the young person involved was probably of consenting age therefore the reason why no police action was taken.
On that note….Stephen can I have those photo’s back

Re: Current Affairs 2024
Just watched this clip of French police being thwarted by a bunch of twig/stick waving illegal immigrants…how pathetic, and what a complete waste of money we’ve wasted in thinking the French are trying to prevent these crossings.
