Forum Access Issues

Problem with accessing the forum lately.
Cannot get the home page to open, just keep getting the timer going round and round. Alson frequently asked to login. This has been an intermittent issue for a few days now. One minute all is fine then it crashes.

I'm having the same issues....I think you should man up a bit and give David a talking too.

But unfortunately he has not returned the crystal ball yet, so I cannot see into the future - although the way Onelife has been using it to pick the non winners perhaps I am better off not having it!!

I don’t have an exact figure but it will be a fraction of what I’ve lost over the years…why do you ask?

Speaking seriously, which I don't often, but.....

I guess pleasure has a price. Some like going to a footie game, some opera, some a rock concert, some a top class meal. None of these come cheap.

So if having a punt on the gee gees is what rocks one's boat that too has a price, possibly no more than any of those other things. Maybe it's the price of a couple of hours enjoyment and winnings are just a bonus. No one ever left a concert or a Michelin restaurant or a footie match for the man on the door to say "well done, here's eight times your admission price back."

Agreed. We all have different interests and to all of them there is a cost implication. Whatever floats your boat.

A very perceptive post Sir Merv. I think its fair to say any sport/hobby can have its downsides, and most require some kind of restraint in not letting them take over your life. I think it also fair to say gambling comes with more than its fair share of personal tragedies. That being said millions enjoy the thrill of the chase, whether that be learning about the equine evolution of these great animals or thinking they have found a form line which gives them the edge over the bookie…I personally enjoy everything about racing and have enjoyed times where my form analysis has reaped benefits, while accepting the good punts are inevitably followed by lots of bad ones. It is when you understand and accept theses odds that your enjoyment of racing becomes a hobby and not an addictive habit.

I guess because IMO gambling is a mugs game, only the bookie or the casino ever make money out of it, and being a careful with money Yorkshireman, that's not something I would enjoy.

Fair comment John, I suppose it could be argued that the whole racing industry is propped up by mugs as it is a fact that only a very small percentage of race horse owners ever get a return on their purchase (somewhere in the region of 2%) and yet they are prepared to take that gamble in the hope of buying the next Arkle.

Life is a gamble where we all live in hope.

Some of that must be mine we haven't had a win now for nearly 12 months.

Take heart from the fact that its the one gamble where your stake is returned when you lose

Most of our savings are in Premium Bonds these days since high interest accounts vanished. No risk to capital and on average we get a reasonable return with always the possibility of a bigger win.

Likewise Sir Merv…whilst interest rates are creeping up a bit the gambler in me always thinks…one day.
