ETA for Canada

Unread post by Debbiemc »

We booked Arcadia for 30 night USA & Canada in the fall through ROL. Once we had paid non refundable payment in full we were informed we needed a Esta for USA and ETA for Canada. We successfully applied and recieved the USA esta but my husband is still awaiting his Canadian ETA
We go at beginning of September and I am becoming very anxious.
Since reading up on the ETA on the government website it says we do not need an ETA for Canada if arriving by ship ...we have phoned both ROL and P&O to check our position as we do not want to be refused boarding on the ship in Southampton because we do not have the correct paperwork.
Is anyone else having the same problem as we are getting conflicting information... thanks

print the government bit you quoted, then if the ETA doesn't arrive in time - wave it at checkin!

Hi Debbie...

Do you need a Canadian eTA if arriving by sea?
Visa-exempt foreign nationals need an eTA to fly to or transit through a Canadian airport. These travellers do not need an eTA when arriving by car, bus, train or boat (including a cruise ship).23 Apr 2024

An eVisitor visa is available to British Citizen passport holders, flying to or visiting Australia on a cruise. It is free of charge and available here. If you are visiting Canada, as a port of call on your itinerary, you do not need a visa.26 Jun 2024

Have a nice Cruise & welcome to the forum.

We did the Canada/USA cruise on Aurora in 2019. As we were arriving in Canada, St. John's Newfoundland by sea we did not need a visa. We were told it was only if tourists arrived by plane that one was needed.

That's my understanding too.

Debbie

I have a friend who recently sailed from Australia to Canada via the USA. I will check with her if she needed the Canadian Visa and get back to you..

I have checked with my friend.
She cruised this May and did not need a Visa for Canada.
You only need it if you fly into Canada.

Hope this helps .
