Olympics 2024
The opening ceremony looked a bit of a dam squid, nevertheless the athletes seemed to be enjoying themselves.

Re: Olympics 2024
The opening ceremony felt disjointed to me, and went on far too long.

Celine Dion and the Eiffel Tower light show were highlights. Pity about the rain but the ceremony was a marathon.

I hope the Beeb are not going to carry on like this morning with five minutes of sport and 15 minutes of discussion. If I am watching the Olympics I want to watch not be bombarded by "experts" pontificating about what should/should not have happened.

Try Discovery+ if you have it on your Sky account.david63 wrote: 27 Jul 2024, 12:54I hope the Beeb are not going to carry on like this morning with five minutes of sport and 15 minutes of discussion. Tastefully done Keith, poor old bugger may be losing it.
Paris opening ceremony, Celine Dion and the horse and the light show best bits , the sound system was terrible for some of the acts.
Don't worry, be happy

Think you’ll need to tune to Eurosport or invest in Disney+. I think it works the same way as radio djs. They were introduced to save money. The more the dj yapped the fewer records could be played and so the less needed to be paid in royalties. Of course some djs were superb and became stars in their own right but too many mediocre characters were duped into thinking they were more important than the music itself.david63 wrote: 27 Jul 2024, 12:54I hope the Beeb are not going to carry on like this morning with five minutes of sport and 15 minutes of discussion. BBC stack the sofa with pundits to blether on between events. The diving was quite good this am mainly due to the rapidity of dives. There was limited time for waffle.
I thought Hazel Irvine and Andrew Cotter did amazingly well under very difficult conditions last evening. I quite like Andrew Jameson and Aidrian Moorhouse commentating on swimming.
With the athletics starting later this week I think we will probably back to normal with the stars fashion show on the sofa briefly interrupted by the odd athlete.
On a brighter note I haven’t (yet) heard the verb ‘to podium’ !

Congratulations to Tom Pidcock winning gold and shame on the French fans for spoiling what was a fantastic ride…they should be ashamed of themselves.
I watched the whole race and he did nothing intentional other than ride out his finish…praise to the silver medallist who accepted the incident with good sportsmanship.

Stubblety-Cook (what a name!) Just watched him go from 6th to first in the last 25m of the 200m breaststroke semi final. Should be a cracker in the final against the crowd’s favourite Leon Marchand.

Very impressive swim…He must have been four metres down at one stage.

Australia seem to be looking to boost their breaststrokers for the future as I see Adam Peaty’s coach is taking up a position there after the Olympics.

Yee wins gold.
The chap leading him must have wondered what was happening as Yee came steaming past him leaving him in the distance towards the end of the race,

Re: Olympics 2024
Two last minute gold medals. I thought Yee was out and heading towards a silver medal. Out of nowhere he flew past the New Zealander.
In the Ladies Fours I saw no way they could overcome the Dutch boat with so little time left. Actually I thought they were lucky. It could have gone either way depending on the stroke but you have to give it to them. It was a gutsy run in both disciplines.
