Olympic gold for China in the 100m freestyle- followed by unbelieving comments from BBC commentator. Perhaps understandable after the debacle overseen by the testing regime in Tokyo.
The Chinese divers however really are unbelievable and it must be down to their training. In the synchro diving the pair often look like one during their dives. Truly outstanding.
We have enjoyed watching the diving- the rapid turnover of dives makes it eminently watchable and Leon Taylor (BBC) is an enthusiastic & knowledgeable commentator.
It was good to see Fred Siriex’s daughter get a bronze yesterday -although it feels a little ‘anti-sporting- the way the you have to hope for others to make a mistake.
Not at all sure about the Italian woman boxer having to fight the Algerian today. I don’t know how Olympic rules can differ from world boxing rules.
…& of course in the tennis we have Team Dandy (Evan’s & Murray) to look forward later on today! I liked the press comment ‘jumping around like toddlers who have had too much lemonade’ when the celebrated their last win.

I’ve often wondered why when there is no breeze to unfurl the podium flags that they haven’t devised some air blowing system that can be attached to the poles allowing air to flow through to open the flags?

There's nothing worse than a limp one, me thinks.

I mean who had thought Guatemala would win a gold medal in shooting.

I agree. Mark Foster said yesterday ‘it’s the ideal pick and mix’. You can watch your favourites sports and then just dip into something else & get hooked- or not and if not, move onto something else.
It’s a bit like the sports coverage you used to get when I was a lad with Sportsview & Grandstand. Both had a variety of sports to enjoy every episode. I remember liking motor bike scrambling and the dog racing especially the dog hurdles.

Paris must have runout of money for the Olympic venues, they could only afford half a basket ball court. :sarcasm:

Many won’t know what you are talking about John, and in my opinion, they shouldn’t bother finding out either…what a boring ridiculous Olympic event.

What was your view on the three aside basketball event?

Since I don't really understand basketball, or indeed enjoy watching it, I don't think I am the correct person to judge.
However having watched lots of American TV shows and movies, then I guess it's possibly derived from the one hoop game that small groups of friends or acquaintances are seen playing on community basketball parks.

Thanks…. that may well be the case and its not unusual to see a few kids practicing throwing a ball into a net in this country. I do however feel three aside basketball using one side of the basketball court devalues the sport of basketball as a whole…. I certainly don’t think it should qualify as an Olympic event.

Anyone watch the BMX racing? Our lady absolutely smashed the opposition all the way through the qualifying rounds only to totally fluff it just when it matters. She was very matter of fact about the loss but deep down she must have been devastated.

I wasn't impressed by the 50% basketball court either but I'm not keen on basketball anyway.

Congratulations to Bryony Page on a wonderful trampolining gold medal.

I watched the heats Foxy and as you say she looked nailed on to win the final…shame, but looking at the event it would appear a good start is essential and, on this occasion, she missed it by a fraction.
