David Austin Roses

Unread post by Onelife »

Visited David Austin show gardens today and its well worth a visit if you find yourself in the Shropshire area. Nice café, if not a little expensive but they don’t skimp on quality of food or presentation so all in all a nice experience. The show gardens are extremely well tendered which gives the customer easy access to the rose sniffing experience, with every rose available from an equally well laid out sales garden. We only went for a walk around but still came away with 4 potted roses which are named after the late late Queen “Elizabeth” lovely fragrant shrub rose which has a long flowering period.

Fully agree OL. We visited a few years ago and enjoyed it, we have quite a few David Austin roses. We also visited the RAF Museum just up the road at Cosford, another excellent venue.

Being a fan of David Austin roses we keep meaning to pay a visit and stop over somewhere for a night or two. Maybe next year.

I've got a couple of David Austin roses in my garden, they give the most lovely perfume. Would love to visit their show garden sometime.

Hello Carole, one thing that was noticeable when walking around the show gardens was the ease of accessibility to all areas of the gardens, albeit for a couple of slight inclines between the show garden and the sales garden, there was also a slight incline the café but easily manageable. The gardeners, one of which was very enthusiastic in explaining the characteristics of roses that would meet your needs…in fact it was this gardener that convinced my wife that we needed more roses…buy four to get a 10% discount. We shall definitely visit again but earlier in the summer next time as a lot of the roses were just going over.

Just as well I don't hold grudges, if you do decide on a visit do drop me a line as I might be able to accommodate you in the old caravan, I used to use…or if you are on your best behaviour a room for the night.

I’d prefer the caravan to being under the same roof knowing his past.

I give up on roses years ago. They required to much tending to, and when they attack, the thorns leave pain and scratches. I've now gone with plants that don't bite back, so long as you don't eat some of them.

Thanks for the ideas, but when I got back from the last cruise, I had plenty of weed in the garden.
