You Tube adverts

Unread post by Portsmouth »

In the last week I've noticed something that seems odd. Usually when I watch you tube you have the adverts appear and as soon as the " skip " symbol appears I click on it and get on with watching the video until it has another advert and I'll click on skip again. However I've noticed that on at least four occasions in the middle of a video, that when I click on skip, nothing happens and no matter how many times I click on the skip symbol the advert keeps going on. I can stop and restart at the bottom but just can't skip certain adverts.
Just want also to mention that on most videos I can skip the ads so I don't think it's my mouse I'm using.

Is this something that You tube is bringing in to force us to watch adverts ?

Anyone got any idea why I can't skip sometimes on you tube adverts ?

Have you tried downloading the DuckDuckGo browser? You get adfree YouTube.

It's a growing trend with VOD - Netflix, Amazon Prime and even TV channels are all doing it now

I suppose we shouldn't complain, after all adverts do, hopefully, keep subscription costs down.

I can accept the need for adverts some of which are more entertaining than the programmes themselves although they do become rather imposing when programmes are broken every 10 minutes or so. Sky News cannot go longer than 5 or 10 minutes without cutting for them.

I sometimes feel the adverts on terrestrial tv are longer than the program. By the time the program comes back on I’ve lost the thread of it, which is why most of the time I record what I want to watch.

YouTube is particularly annoying...adverts at the beginning but mid stream more adverts cut in literally mid sentence.

If there are two programmes we want to watch at the same time we always watch the BBC one and record ITV, Channel 4, 5 etc for exactly that reason. Skipping the ads we can watch a 2 hour ITV programme in 90 mins.

Ah, so it’s your fault that almost all C5 documentaries have an annoying recap session at the start of each section ( after the ad break.) Also I suppose it’s cheaper to repeat yourself than to research some new info.
We like others tend to record non BBC programmes and then watch them & skip through adverts. Sometimes, if we’ve forgotten to record something then we will stream them and I’ve noticed that some ad breaks on the streamed progs are actually shorter than in live to air programming. Presumably there are different costs for advertisers on catch up & some may opt out.

Another way of using adverts to your advantage is to send your wife into the kitchen to make a cuppa  :D

That's what we do OL, well, me really, to service the needs of the good lady with a drink and treats.
It is annoying when you've just sat through the second set of adverts and you suddenly realise you're watching a recording.
Don't worry, be happy
