Justin Welby..Gods vessel of truth and love for Gods children

Being an Atheist I have little time for deities - soothsayers/bible bashers/sky pilots, whatever they call themselves, so it’s no surprise I haven’t got any time whatsoever for hypocrites such as Justin Welby. He has done the right thing in resigning but he should also face the consequences of his action, or lack of them in this case (even though he is one but many to have turned a blind eye to sexual abuse within the church). He should face the same disciplinary repercussions as any other professional person in a position of trust and responsibility would face...no ifs or buts.

He says he wants to reach out to the victims…well if I was one of the young boys who suffered because of him turning a blind eye, then I would be reaching out to him alright… with a fist in his gob.

I cannot really say that he has done the right thing by resigning, since that would have been to ensure that Smyth was brought to justice in 2013, when Welby first knew about his crimes.

It's interesting that some are saying that he was pushed so he wouldn't make a fuss in the Lords about Assisted Dying - they wanted him out of the way.
BUT there's others who will fight that corner - so it won't make much difference.

Unfurtunatly, in my opinion, 25 bishops will no doubt take the same stance as Welby believing “Our suffering is light and temporary and is producing for us an eternal glory that is greater than anything we can imagine”

So, is it a case that those who suffer more in this life are entitled to more eternal glory?

Not crap Keith, but as the written recollections of learned clerics passed down over centuries, you can hardly expect it to be other than a man made religion, and the same goes for all the other World religions, they are man's interpretation.
However unless and until there is proof of other advanced civilisations somewhere in the Universe, to suggest that life can develop totally unaided. Then if we are the only planet with such diverse flora and fauna, I have the feeling that quite possibly some higher power had a hand in our creation.

Faith is personal and is a huge comfort to some people. I accept that others have no such faith and feel they don't have any need of it. However to describe it as crap and deride those who do is objectionable to say the least.

Hi John, that is a perfectly sensible and logical way at looking at things. I do think however, the super power you suspect that might be our creator probably goes by the name of “Physics” but in the absence of absence I’m happy to give your theory more credibility than that of learned clerics using the power of God to control by deception.

I take onboard what you are saying Sir Merv and perhaps I was a little loose with my interpretation of what some believe in. Whilst I understand many take comfort in the belief that their God will give them hope in times of despair and that they and their loved ones will live for ever more in the Kingdom of heaven… what we do know for sure is that there are millions who are there because they were told by their learned clerics that this be the truth….what I also know for sure is that those who lead good honest lives have nothing to fear about what comes next, if anything…I of courser always edge my bets so just in case I have stepped over the line a few times, I want God to know he is my best mate ever.

A bit harsh to call it control by deception Keirh. The clerics who wrote/translated our bible were just trying to make their firmly held belief credible to the masses of the time, where in the late 3rd and 4th centuries were mainly illiterate.

That’s one way of looking at things, I prefer to believe that the scriptures and the stories within were nothing more than a tool used to coheres the illiterate into believing the only choice they had was heaven or hell…twenty centuries on that still holds true today.
