Ah, our resident sales rep!

The irony with MM's argument was that genuine snake oil can actually be beneficial. See:

http://www.scientificamerican.com/artic ... -something

It was all the 'get rich quick' pedlars of useless imitations that gave it a bad name. The analogy of 'false prophets' comes to mind.

Exactly.

And, as Mo didn't seem to understand, if you are going to make crass statements, you should have the courage of your convictions to stand by them when asked. As DK rightly said, you can ask but you may not like the answer. You should still answer, though, otherwise why make the assertion in the middle of a debate?

Unfortunately at times on this forum as on a number of others, you get posters who all they seem to want to do, is to act as "back seat moderators", often the same people.

The forum rules are very straight forward, and if posters do not like them or the forum moderators, then nobody is forcing them to stay.

Forum rules are available to be read by all Members at any time
Who are the moderators? How many do we have?
I can fully understand those who do not wish to be part of something that is run by a group of friends who moderate and express opinions . Surely the attraction should be that it is regulated by the "impartial" with no history.

Hello ... and welcome

I am one of the Moderators and would wish to advise you that first and foremost we try to be ordinary Members of this site who genuinely enjoy posting ... and cruising of course.

We are not a group of friends but were invited by the owner to collectively participate in the Moderation of this site, being impartial is certainly not a problem nor is History unless it is repeated.

So, that's me ... who are you, did you post on the now nearly defunct P&O site albeit under a different name ?

Yes. I was a member of P & O 's community forum and I recall that Mr Kane was often in conflict with one of your moderators. Therefore I am sure that he will never post on here. In addition I recall him stating that moderators should not post.
I am a regular cruiser ,however recently we have become bored and we are giving it a rest until we feel inspired.

The phrase poacher turned gamekeeper springs to mind. Who moderates you?

It is a strange thing to join a forum that you don't approve of, about a subject that you are bored with. What was your P & O name btw?

Hi All

I've only just found this post and as I've just Exchanged with Darknight and qbman on LOTP with my new name I was beginning to be worried about the MM tag in case I got taken to task for it. I truly didn't think of this when I selected it.

Back on Topic and for the wider audience I would respond thus ...

As has been stated many many times on this site we genuinely respect Derek Kane's decision not to join us, it was his choice entirely. If however he changes his mind at any time he, his postings, will be Moderated on the basis of the T&Cs and nothing else but the manner in which this site is Administered will not be revised one iota to accommodate him or his preferences.

Goodness me, this is a long thread about someone who isn't even a member of this forum

Isn't the Monocled Mutineer a bit old hat now?

In the last few months on the P&O forum he had turned into a parody of himself, surely he now needs to be left in the past where he belongs.

He surely isn't that interesting to warrant a 17 page thread on a forum he doesn't belong to.

Is it possible to forget about him and move on now?
Gill

Am I wrong in thinking that if you put a  or a  or a  at the end of one's posts, you can post pretty much anything ? :lolno:

Back to topic: I think every forum needs strong characters. However, if one perceives - if not a clique - then at least a nucleus of tightly-knit people - newcomers, in my opinion, whilst perhaps joining the forum, may well be put off posting to any sort of degree. After all, who wants to be jumped on by the perceived ruling class ? And no-one is going to run the risk of the possibility of being targeted by the most vocal of them.

In answer to your first question, the answer is 'no' ... however some people do not have underlying agendas and may be friends on and off this site which means they will know when each other is leg pulling versus someone simply being obnoxious.
