We haven’t got anything booked yet but it looks like we might be doing a cruise next yea,r although I’m struggling to get my head round… when, where, and who with. I might try and get a few days in Weston -Super-Mare as it always brings back the memories of the many happy holidays we spent there as kids…. we will no doubt continue to use our daughter’s rented accommodation for a few short breaks in Aberystwyth.

But then I keep asking myself "why would I need a holiday when I live on my country estate in the beutiful hills of Shropshire surrounded by deer, chickens and a ride-on mower to round them up"? :D

Me , or Stephen - the choice is yours, just as long as you are paying.

We camped for many years and became quite proficient in making the experience more comfortable than the uninitiated might think. By knowing where to go we could have several breaks away, avoid crowds (and families with hordes of kids) and have a nice relaxing holiday in some beautiful parts of the country. Camping gives you perfect freedom and is totally relaxing. Not sure what SWMBO thought of it.

I’ll let you have the pleasure trauma David. I’m still having therapy from being on a cruise ship with him for less than 24hrs

Confirmation this morning of another group of South East refugees who will be encamping on us for a week this summer.
We love to have’em but it does work out blooming expensive.
They are on holiday.
We’re not 😂.

Like Foxy, we camped for many years, taking the children all over Spain where very few tourists visited. We had a trailer tent which was like the Tardis in Doctor Who, when opened up had two double beds and further accommodation underneath which made two more spaces for one adult each or two children in each. It was very comfortable and very large once the extensions were added.
As the children grew older and flew the nest , Sarah and myself started on our first cruise, the rest is history.

Tried camping in my yoof. That was enough. I like my creature comforts now.

We had the same out in the Fatherland playing host to family.
If they came during term time it meant I pulled in as much time as I could so I could spend time with them, then once they had gone home I had catching up to do. It was great to see them and to spend time but when they had gone we were totally exhausted. Comment from my dad....."Our Gary has a great time. He's home just after four, has a newspaper every day and out for coffee and meals every night!!!!" Little did they know. I wonder if maybe we should have continued our normal lives so they saw what it was really like? No, not really.
As we always said, it was great to see them, we enjoyed time spent with them but a relief when they went back. I expect they said the same about us.

Back to camping, like Ray we had a trailer tent and holidayed all over Europe. It was a magnificent bit of kit with plenty of space, proper mattresses and once parked up it could be erected within 15 minutes and the kettle on. For overnight stops we could just open up half of it which took no time at all. Next morning fold it up and you were on your way. Loved it!!!

Fair dues we are very much into four and five star hotels. The posher the better but still happy to slum it if need be. When we did the long distance walks we stayed at some right doss houses. Looked lovely on the web but oh dear!!! Thankfully only for one night. :o

We camped a lot when we first got married (it was the only holiday we could afford) With the smell of bacon wafting around the camp site and the friendliness you often found on campsites, what was not not to enjoy.

I can understand what you are saying OL, running a large estate does not leave much for personal holidays in hotels.
