They were at a good price but one of us did get the ball in the back of the net......Calmers 9/2

So back to today.....its Gold Cup Day and I would have been going for Kyprios to go for his 3rd Gold Cup win but he unfortunately had to retire
A real classy horse won 17 of his 21 races...he won 8 /9 of his group 1 starts.

So I wasn't that inspired today....but anyway here are my thoughts

14:30 Norfolk Stakes....16 runners rather than go for the obvious favourite Charles Darwin.....I'll go for First Legion 14/1
15:05 King George V stakes 19 runners ....another outsider Daiquiri Bay 16/1

15:40 Ribblesdale Stakes ...I would have been tempted to go for your choice Serenity Prayer ( 2nd fav ) it really looks like it will do the extra distance....but I think I'll go for Lady Vivian 12/1 ( but also take an interest in how Go Go Boots runs as I think she shows promise )

16:20 Gold cup....I was tempted to go Candelari but sire is Frankel who never ran this distance so maybe doubts on stamina.
17:00 Britannia Stakes .....you are going for Shout.....I couldn't see anything I liked

17:40 Hampton court Stakes....only Reyenzi 14/1 & Jacknife 4/1 caught my eye

18:10 statistics again.....There had never been a successful favourite in 17 runnings until English Oak won as the 100-30 favourite last year.
This year English Oak is favourite again.....can she repeat last years win....I have my doubts
going for what might seem a strange choice....Inside Matters....hasn't run for a year, had wind surgery and changed yards but with all this happening just wondering why the low starting price of 14/1 he only won a minor French maiden.....so i'll take a chance he's better than he seems.

A bit unlucky with Serious Contender only coming 2nd. You were also right about the possibility of Shout fluffing his start....he was slowly away.
As for Divine Libra....next race is meant to be the Bunbury at Newmarket next month but the ones that beat hm seem to be also entered.
Luckily my losses were pretty small with 20p Patents & 20p win round robin

Anyway for tomorrow maybe a change of plan.....I think what I might do is take a punt on some of the favourites in the races.
I noticed on Tuesday 3/7 races were won by favourites.....that's better than I was doing + 1 second place
On Wednesday only 2 favourites won but there were 3 placed
Today ( Thursday ) 5 favourites came 1st....and also a 3rd place
So later I'll try to work out which favourites are more likely to win tomorrow....must be an improvement on my choices today

I seem to be having a run of near misses, but, hey’ no one said picking winners at Ascot was easy. With 28 runners in most of the races it does become a bit of a lottery. Yes, it is as you say, in that it would have been better sticking with the more inform trainers/Jockeys this past couple of days. Considering our selections this past couple of days perhaps we should take up knitting instead.

Well, tomorrows another day with the card looking even more difficult to find a winner but here goes…
Whilst high numbers have had the run of things in most of the sprint’s races, I’m going for the no 1 stall in the first…” Venetian Sun” has some speedy horses around it so might break that trend.

2.30 “Venetian Sun” £5 win

Leovanni will need some improvement on recent runs but at 33/1 it could just scrape into a place.

3.5 “Leovanni” £3 win £2 place

While “Naqeeb” won’t be on most peoples list as a likely winner he has been beaten by some good horses and a change of trainer seems to have rejuvenated his chances in what is a winnable race on his best form.

3.40 “Naqeeb” £5-win £2 place

Adrestia looks one that has the scope to build on its resent run. The booking of Oisin Murphy looks to be a positive.

6.10 “Adrestia” £5 win

I might also have a 50p lucky 15 on the four.

So for the 14:30 the favourite is Signora who was just beaten by Green Sense...also in this race
15:05 Shadow of Light is favourite and I'll stick with him. I notice Jonquil is also running dropping in trip after his French 2000 guineas 2nd.
15:40 Ethical diamond is fav but he is a WP Mullins horse that jumps hurdles...can he really win. I like Almosh'her better
16:20 Zarigana is favourite
17:00 Miss Nightfall is favourite ...Dash of Azure might be a danger
17:35 Amiloc is favourite....Zahrann might be a danger
18:10 Realign is favourite

Can the favourites win every race....highly unlikely but hopefully putting them in accumulators or patents, I might get something back

Tomorrow my only interest is in the first race Chesham stakes for 2 yr olds....interesting to see if the 2 million euro Treanmor wins easily.
Not bothered about the last day at Royal Ascot bar that race.

Hi Pompey, as the curtain starts to fall on what has been a fantastic week racing, I’m struggling to find a form line in most of tomorrows races…there are only two horses that have caught my eye, one of which is “Inisherin” 3.40 (who is one of the leading fancies in the betting). The trainers’ horses have all run well this week and I can’t see anything in the form that would suggest this one won’t do the same.

“Inisherin” £5 win

The other one at a bigger price is “Purosangue” 5.00. Whilst his win to lose ratio isn’t that impressive, he has run some good races in better class of races and a return to that form would see him in with a big chance.

“Purosangue” £8 win £2 place

With regard to the other races, I fully expect your “Favourite strategy” to come to the fore, what with some strong candidates on offer tomorrow.

Not a good day for favourites yesterday...only 2 from 7 races + one place....of course I did get both but at prices of 3/1 & 11/8 there's no real money to come back. I did two 10p patents so only spent £5:20 ....spend more on a cappuccino and cake

As I said yesterday ....my only real interest is in the Chesham Stakes....interested to see how Treanmor runs....they paid 2 million euros for him
He is already 14/1 for next years 2000 guineas
However if Humidity or Venetian Lace run well they are shown as 50/1 in next years 2000 guineas and that price will drop
Moments of Joy is the other big fancy (and the same team won this last year with Bedtime Story)....14/1 for 1000 guineas next year

So not a betting day for me but hope Inisherin runs well for you although that Japanese sprinter Satono Reve looks to be good as well.

I watched Treanmor win its last Newmarket race and thought then what an impressive winner he was…on that running I can’t see anything getting to within three lengths of him.

Just wondering what would it cost to insure a colt such as him considering his price tag…any ideas?

Well, that’s it for another year, but it will have left many memories for both those who attended and those who like me watched from my armchair. There were a few stand out performances, but for me the best being “Field of Gold” who looked outstanding. I was also pleased to see Kerian Shoemaker ride two winners especially after being sacked as John Gosden’s retained jockey …I don’t think one bad ride deserved that kind of treatment so I was pleased to see him show what a top-notch Jockey he is.

I only found two winners with a few placed horses but still managed a £76 profit over the five days. (didn’t have a bet on day one)

I watched Treanmor win its last Newmarket race and thought then what an impressive winner he was…on that running I can’t see anything getting to within three lengths of him. Charlie Appleby seems to have a hard time getting winners at Royal Ascot. Treanmor despite the glowing reports could only finish fifth. As I said with Humidity winning he dropped from best price 50/1 to now 20/1 for next years 2000 guineas.

Just wondering what would it cost to insure a colt such as him considering his price tag…any ideas? I read something that suggested that they won't run a top horse after reaching 3 because the insurance gets much more expensive and it makes it better value to put them in stud

I noted that the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes were won by Lazzat with French trainer J Reynier using jockey James Doyle.
Just wondered if you heard about the huge criticism he made about the way that jockey Flavien Prat rode Facteur Cheval in Wednesday's Group 1 Prince of Wales's Stakes where he came 6th to Ombudsman.
Reynier believes Facteur Cheval's chances were seriously compromised by Prat's decision to ride the gelding closer to the pace on his first try at a mile and a quarter.

"He has come out of the race well, despite his jockey doing absolutely nothing to help him," said Reynier who, more than 48 hours after the event, had yet to fully comprehend why Prat had deviated so far from his instructions.
In a race with loads of pace, he elected to lead the chase [of the pacemaker]. He was the first to commit on the turn for home and launched his attack three wide with no cover and too far out.

"He thought he was at Santa Anita or Del Mar where they have short straights and the tracks are flat, and I don’t think it was a judicious move to use a jockey who rides in that style."
"I think it was perhaps the worst ride given to one of my horses since I became a trainer," Reynier added.
I think it's fair to say he was pretty peed off

Today, is the Irish Oaks....seems pretty poor to me...no English trainers have bothered to send any of their horses to oppose Minnie Hauk
Aiden O'Brien has trained 4 out of the 7 horses....I'm more interested in the first race with several unraced 2 year olds like Action, Shaihaan & Giovanni Giorgio who are also entered in a group 2 race in August but won't be having a bet.
I expect Onelife will be watching the National Hunt racing at Market Rasen today so I'll put in my 2 pence worth of suggestion for the 3:12 race.
The two horses I like are Ballysax Hank & Courtland with Courtland getting my vote & he likes it here.
For the winner of the !3:35 its a very famous song by Hermans Hermits in the 1960s
For the winner of the 14:40 think of a song by Joan Baez or even a different on by Rick Wakeman
And finally if you can be bothered to look ....16:25...the mans name from a well known tv comedy ? & ? the one with Rob Brydon

Hi Pompey, with odds of 1/6 about Mini Hawk winning the Oaks I certainly won’t be backing against it. I did take a look at Market Rasen but the two races look far too competitive for me to have a bet. I have opted for two at Newbury and two at Ripon today.

It was a case of top jockeys playing “I’ll wait for you to go first tactics” whilst not bothering with the one that had already gone seven lenths clear.

They should all be fined for poor race riding.

Hi Pompey, I’ve only had three bets this week, all got placed but backed them for a win so still looking for that elusive winner. I’m backing three tomorrow which probably isn’t a good move seeing how the ground has changed from good to heavy.

Haven't taken too much notice about the Goodwood races so far as I was only really interested in the Sussex Stakes and the Coral Vintage Stakes (Group 2 ) for two yr olds where Dorset failed to live up to expectations.
As for your choices..... I notice that Zinc White has 2 tips and seems to like soft ground so hopefully might get there.
EBts Guard looks interesting but I would have thought more a place than a win & also maybe Rhoscolyn needs to be watched as this one seems to like soft going
Ardisa was eased off in the last race and hampered in the race before but going up to 6f just might make a difference..
So hopefully you'll do well
I did also look at the 15:05 King George Qatar Stakes and would have bet on big outsider Manaccan who was pretty good at three and has been a bit disappointing since..... but he is now declared a non runner and runs at York later this month instead in a group 1. Maybe I'll look at that one in a couple of weeks.

You were spot on with your prediction with Rhoscolyn winning at 5/1 with EBT Guard 11/1 running into a place…shame it wasn’t the other way round.
As you will see “Ardisia” saved my bacon winning at 20/1.

I couldn’t believe the price as it drifted out from 10/1 to 20/1 just before the off…someone must have heard it was my nap of the day.

I’m only having one bet tomorrow “Toimy Son” 4.55 Goodwood £10 win £5 place….should run a big race.
