I hope you are right Pompey but on last night’s performance there’s going to have to be more structure to their game….talk about six and seven’s…they were all over the place.Portsmouth wrote: 18 Jul 2025, 17:23It should be a confident win for England on Tuesday.....they beat Italy in a friendly 5-1 last year.
Also I expect Spain to dominate and win against Switzerland tonight

Tuned in for the last quarter of an hour, don't normally watch girlie football ,but although the field was a bit open, it was a fair watch. Then extra time and the drama started to lift. The penalty shoot out was quite gripping by then , but they do not seem to have enough power behind the ball and really ,it was easy for the goalie s to save them.
Don't worry, be happy

Hi Pompey, I’ve just been looking at the odds for England’s top scorer and at 8/1 Alessia Russo appears to be a good speculative bet…I might just have a fiver on her before Tuesdays match. Would the stats suggest this is a fair bet?

Re: Football 24/25
Well the stats seem to say that England v Italy won't be goalless...in the previous meetings between England & Italy in all competitions, none have ended up goalless and only 2 of those have shown only one goal scored.
It seems that Esther Gonzalez ( Spain ) is favourite as you probably know.
Looks like Leah Schuller 13/2 might not get the chance to improve depends on extra time...she started on the bench.
Russo has a chance to be top scorer, am I right in saying she has 5 goals at the moment but so has Georgia Stanway and Lauren James but Russo is the standout candidate.
Yes it is a spectulative bet but having a small bet like that might give you that extra bit of excitement when you watch the match
As for me......Been very bad....I took the fun bet for Italy to beat England and win the Euros

France vs Germany… that was epic.... and deserved.
It’s taken many decades but tonight I think we've wittnesd a save on par with that of Gordon Banks world cup save.

As far as I understand it only goals from the qualifying rounds 2nd to 27th July count.
England goal scorers… I think we have three players on two goals each with Russo and others on one goal each?

Re: Football 24/25
It was a great match for Germany borne out of guts and determination playing a very good French side with only 10 players.
That save was absolutely amazing but there was plenty of drama to come in the penalty shoot out. Both sides showed how penalties should be taken. Even the German keeper took a great penalty!!
Having watched Germany lose to Sweden I didn't give them a chance against France. Well done them!!!

Germany showed such grit so Spain need to be at the top of their game to win.
Onelife, sorry I got it wrong about the England scorers....should have looked at the BBC where it was much clearer
C Girelli ( Italy ) now looks a tempting bet
just joking
If I was to gamble then it would be for Beever -Jones to be first scorer
& yes I do think England will beat Italy but.......upsets sometimes happen.

Hi Pompey, I’m not so sure I’m going to be able to get a bet on Russo as only two bookies are pricing up England for top scorer odds…Betfred not being one of them.Portsmouth wrote: 20 Jul 2025, 14:29Germany showed such grit so Spain need to be at the top of their game to win.

I think Germany will beat Spain, as would England if they were to meet because I see Spain as being vulnerable to a good attacking side.
Anyway, let’s hope your bet gets stuffed

Re: Football 24/25
I’ve just looked down to find I’ve only half a thumb nail left… but felt a lot better when I realised Pompey had blown his money.
I can’t say it was a fantastic display from the England side, far from it. The first half resembled “walking football” with half the players looking as if they were out for an evening stroll. The second half picked up a bit but once again we were lucky to get away with the win.
I think we might see a couple of changes to the starting line up on Sunday with Kelly and Agyemang joining Hemp and Russo up front?
We’ve got the talent; they just need to light the fuse a bit quicker.
Well done the Lionesses

The stand out moment for me was when Hampton did a double save…she stared the second shot right in the eye, never flinching despite the ball was coming at her at full pelt.

I thought England's timing was perfect, an equaliser deep into added time giving the opposition no time to respond, then an Oscar winning performance from Beth Meade to win a penalty just as the Italians were preparing for a penalty shootout. Go lionesses.

It certainly wiped the smile off the Italian faces who were celebrating before the full-time whistle…to think, had they not resorted to all their time-wasting antics they would probably be through …7 minutes is a long time in football.towny44 wrote: 23 Jul 2025, 10:07I thought England's timing was perfect, an equaliser deep into added time giving the opposition no time to respond, then an Oscar winning performance from Beth Meade to win a penalty just as the Italians were preparing for a penalty shootout. It served them right. Throughout the second half they adopted every time wasting trick they could muster. England were by far the better team but it was difficult to break through a packed defence.

Well, if we do lose the final, I’m pleased it won’t be to Germany…Germany had their chances, they didn’t take them, we will.

Re: Football 24/25
Seems like time for another fun bet despite losing a huge...£1
for giving Italy an outside chance ( and they nearly caused an upset ) :
So does that mean I'm going to bet on Spain to win ...No...however this is what I'm looking at with my next enormous £3 in bets..
Half Time Full Time
Spain Draw 15/1........£1
England Draw 16/1 .......£1
And then to finish off.......£1 on England to win in extra time 20/1
I wonder if Onelife put a fiver on the Lionesses when they were about 5/1 to win

Half time......looking possible for my bet to possibly succeed...Spain 1-0 up and now I need England to pull one back and then win in extra time
Actually Spain look very strong and I hate to say look like they could be winners....hoping England can get that ball in the back of the net soon.

Well done and congratulations to the Lionesses. They did it the hard way (again) against a very talented Spanish team and for much of the game it was backs to the wall but this England team held firm. Looks like they had been practising their penalty kicks which were better but the goalkeeper was the hour of the hour and made spectacular saves to keep the ball out. Dogged and determined, it was a great win. Champions!!!!

It’s coming home. Again!
The Beautiful game has just got even more beautiful; they fought with the heart of lionesses and never gave up…they should all be given a Damehood
…Oh’ Sh8t I’m getting a bit carried away.
How refreshing to see football being played as if there lives depended on it….great example to how the game should be played.
Well done Pompey, Enjoy your trip to the bookies.

I’ll be surprised if Jess Carter lines up next week, she looked like she was playing for Sweden at times, awful mistakes which put us on the back foot from the start.

Re: Football 24/25
I have to agree with you Onelife, she was close to being player of the match, Spain did not seem to capitalise on her lack of pace. Maybe because they played much of the gane in or around our penalty area, so she was able to use her classy reading of the game to be in the right place.Onelife wrote: 27 Jul 2025, 21:37The rest did her good John...Jess played a blinder tonighttowny44 wrote: 18 Jul 2025, 15:17Jess's main problem is her lack of speed, however she does read the game extremely well.
