Most Popular children's names 2024

Unread post by Ray B »

Says alot about the make up of our country, no Fred's,Bob's, David, Andrew or Charles.

The most popular names for children born in England and Wales in 2024 have been released, with Athena and Yahya making it into the top 100 for the first time.

Muhammad tops the list of boys' names for the second year running, with Noah and Oliver also making second and third place, respectively, as they were in 2023

Call me old fashioned if you like, but I do like a traditional name for boys or girls, mostly because they are easy to say and spell😂.
I don't get this naming a child with with outlandishly hard to pronounce and even worst to spell names, just to be different.
I like the name David, but, having seen Michelangelo's David, David's have a lot to live up to, if you get my drift.

I can’t say I’m enthralled by some of the modern names but I quite some girls’ names such as… Mia, Sky, Ava, Shay, Poppy, etc, I don’t like the return of old boys’ names such as… George, Jacob, David, Jack, Oliver, Henry, Arthur.

It is quite interesting to know the origin of names, Keith being “a man of the woods”

I’ve just checked out the origin of the name ‘Stephen’ and whilst there are a few variations the one that seems to fit the bill is “he who likes to wear dresses” :D

That would be the one.

Apparently Mervyn means "Great Lord" or "Famous Friend".
