Well it looks as if Rachel from Accounts has got her sums wrong, yet again with government borrowing at its highest level for 27 years https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy989njnq2wo

She is starting to make Truss look competent

Not sure how much longer she can survive - even her right hand man has jumped ship. Anyway it's alright as Starmer has full confidence in her managing the economy - says a lot about his judgement!

Well Rishi did warn everyone, repeatedly at PMQs, not to trust Labour with the economy. Makes one wonder whether allowing the masses to choose the government is such a good idea. But we are no worse than the Yanks, who voted for Trump twice.

What worries me is not just the current Labour government, who bleated about the Tories management of the economy but are now having problems on a "p*ss up in a brewery" scale. It's what comes next. In the usual cycle one party stays in power long enough for the electorate to have forgotten how bad the last lot were and be ready to give them another go, but I don't think Sir Hindsight and his crew will manage that. So this time we're heading hell for leather for Farage and Co in charge. And they'll make Labour and the Tories look brilliant.

And that is the big worry. The one saving grace is that although Reform are popular in the polls, and in getting votes they don't seem to be able to turn those votes into seats, at the moment. Also a lot can happen in four years.

You're right. In four years Rachel from Accounts could make it ten times worse!

I agree about Farage, the more you read about the economy, about this ridiculous situation of five armed police officers going to arrest the Father Ted creator, Graham Linehan, for making jokes about trans people online, you wonder what is happening to this country and as far as I can see the only person making a loud noise about this is Farage. I always have been a Conservative voter but I really think the Tories need to start 'shouting' about things. Ever since Kemi Badenoch has been leader they seem to have gone quiet. I know she said a period of reflection was needed but maybe now is the time for action. I had great hopes that she would bring a new breath of life to the party, I did vote for her, but this doesn't seem to be happening.

"Economy isn't working well enough, says Reeves" - isn't that stating the bleeding obvious?

For starters she is only a "caretaker" leader so she is never going to change the world, but the bigger problem is that none of the main political parties have any strong "characters" in the mould of Boris, Wilson, Thacher et al.

Just seen that to David.

I'm slightly baffled by Labour's attitude to teenagers (among many other concerns!). According to their latest policy announcement at 1 day under 16 they're not intelligent or mature enough to make their own decision on energy drinks. Yet according to a previous policy announcement one day later they're intelligent and mature enough to vote on the country's future. Doesn't add up.

You appear to be confusing logic with Labour policy

As yes, it's called DAS. Diane Abbott Syndrome.

Mind you when the Minister responsible for housing doesn't understand the rules about buying houses.

That's a bit unfair - she was (she claims) badly advised/made a mistake. just like "normal" people.

Seems very strange that only a couple of years ago she was the one demanding resignations when anyone in the Tory party did the same.

Ah yes, I'd forgotten she was just a "normal" person. We're all making silly mistakes when we buy £800k seaside flats. Easily done.

If all of the "colleagues" of Raynor knew the details of this apartment purchase, as they are claiming in the media today, then why did they not tell her she was not paying the full amount of stamp duty?

Golden rule number one - if you know nothing then keep your mouth shut.
Golden rule number two - when in a hole stop digging.

I topped up my Cash Passport Card (a preloaded currency card) today ahead of our next holiday. I was shocked how much value the Pound has lost against the Euro since I last topped up 6 months ago. Thanks a lot Rachel.
