The News, Match of the Day, Football League Show (for those who are still awake).
I must confess to enjoying Take Me Out. Paddy McGuinness is as mad as a box of frogs but some of those girls are a bit scary.

It's like a jazzed up Blind Date Jaczs, except you can see what you're getting. You'd have to be either desperate or an exhibitionist to be on it. Sorry you don't qualify

The old terrestrial channels keep getting worse! Weekend viewing is particularly poor.
I thought I would try a new show by Richard Hammond (Secret Service -not sure what night it was on) and, quite honestly, it was dumbed down garbage (and that is being kind about it).

Sunday nights are good on BBC1 at the moment..Blandings, with Timothy Spall and Jennifer Saunders is a good laugh...Call the Midwife, is wonderful with Jenny Agiter and the brilliant Miranda Hart and then there is The scary Ripper Street.
All great viewing...Apart from The Football League Show, Saturday night is complete pants...Casualty is okay but that's all....They even repeat that awful dross...Mrs Brown's Boys...what a load of rubbish that is.....Saturday night should be the best night, like it was in the 'good old day's'

Re: Saturday night TV viewing?
It's not just the dumbed down nature that I object to (as I mentioned previously, I can enjoy a bit of trash here and there).
What bugs me is the habit of repeating things within a programme, whereby the content keeps jumping around between items and each time an item is updated we have to have a period of rehashing what we've already seen.
The commercial channels are the worst as they recap after each ad break. Try watching something like Restoration Man or Locationx3 and just see how much is repeated.
I guess this is to save money, as each minute of recapping and showing the same footage is a minute less of production costs.

I agree Paul, and as a kid I remember Saturday night TV being a highlight.paultheeagle wrote:Saturday night should be the best night, like it was in the 'good old day's'
You usually had a couple of kids shows (e.g. cartoon, Doctor Who) followed by the news, then there was a family entertainment show (Morecambe & Wise, Two Ronnies, Mike Yarwood, Generation Game), followed by a movie, the late evening news, Match of the day and maybe even a late movie.
I have all but given up on the old terrestrial channels.

A pet hate of mine too. Basically that is down to cost cutting. They used to do an edit of the programme to suit BBC and a second edit to suit a channel with advertising .. now they simply do a single edit that spends half the show telling you 'what-we-are-going-to-tell-you' or 'what-we-have-already-told-you'.Romig1 wrote:What bugs me is the habit of repeating things within a programme, whereby the content keeps jumping around between items and each time an item is updated we have to have a period of rehashing what we've already seen.
I used to love Watchdog but it went down the route .. makes me think they have very little material to fill the slot. It also went down the route of 'That's life' where they get their teeth into a story and let common sense go out the window.

Re: Saturday night TV viewing?
We get this on the weather reports. I know what the b****y weather has been, want to know what it is going to be. It's a weather forecast for goodness sake!!!
The inane little scenarios annoy me. On Strictly we have little playlettes which are so bizarre and waste time. Similarly we have much the same on Dancing on Ice where we have to endure Great Aunt Dorrie from Timbuctoo arriving unannounced. I would rather see more skating, thank you. Much the same has happened to X Factor and Britain's Got Talent. Take away this rubbish and the adverts (in ITV's case) and there is very little content left.
Fortunately you can catch up on documentaries on the computer but you shouldn't really have to.

Re: Saturday night TV viewing?
Was one of those cartoons the Pink Panther Ken? I remember Saturday afternoons after Grandstand had finished watching the Pink Panther followed by Doctor Who, and the Generation Game - oh happy days. I loved the Pink Panther. And I always remember crying at the Generation Game episode when they had to ballroom dance with dummies and the arms and legs started to fall off - would that be funny now do you think??Kendhni wrote:I agree Paul, and as a kid I remember Saturday night TV being a highlight.paultheeagle wrote:Saturday night should be the best night, like it was in the 'good old day's'
