Onelife’s Saturday Bankers

Racing enthusiasts will be chomping at the bit in anticipation of what the 2.00 at Newcastle will deliver tomorrow. Will “Constitution Hill” prove he is still the champion or will the equally talented “The New Lion” put a dent in that reputation… or is the new kid on the block “Andazam” going to say “move over lads, I’ve arrived to spoil your party”? This will be a fascinating race to watch with any number of scenarios in play.

Well, I’ve cast my eyes over the form book with only a three catching my eye.

If Newbury gets as much rain as I encountered while getting drenched on the Yellow Peril this lunch time then “Booster Bob” 12.30 Newbury should be there at the finish, that’s if he is fit enough after a 273-day layoff.

Booster Bob £5 win

Gorgeous Tom 2.55 Newbury, is a big outsider in what is a very competitive handicap, add to this he’s not certain to enjoy the ground or stay the distance if it turns very soft…if it does run then Henry De Bromhead doesn’t send horses over for a holiday so I think it’s worth the risk.

Gorgeous Tom £ 5-win £2 place

My last selection is an interesting one “Javert Allan” 3.35 Newbury. This horse is trained by Jane Williams who is one of my favourite trainers…she hasn’t got a lot of horse but when she runs one you can guarantee her horses will give their best…the horse often leads and often looks to be going best towards the last but doesn’t appear to have many gears after jumping the last….

Javert Allan £5-win

£1 ew treble.

Yes the Fighting Fifth Hurdle will be an interesting battle...many think that Golden Ace was lucky to win the Champion Hurdle but she seems to have few friends in the betting for this race @25/1
It will be amazing if Constitution Hill gets back to his old form and wins by a few lengths...many think this won't happen

Regarding your tips at Newbury tomorrow
I can see why you went for Booster Bob but a possible threat is Scarface who might do better with a slightly lesser distance than his last race, although he was beaten by Booster Bob in March at Newbury but he did make a mistake and Jockey also lost his stirrup briefly.

I made another one of my (this can't really win ) bets in the 2:15 with a 50p e/way bet on Col du Pre just changed yards to V Williams & ridden by Charlie Duetsch . I'm kindof curious why she's entered him in this race with pretty good prize money as well. Probably going to be Pulled Up  but I thought maybe maybe she knows something we don't know

As for the 2:55 Coral Gold Cup....you've gone for Georgeous Tom....good move with your £2 place as I think they pay out for 5 places
I made my £2 e/way punt on Three Card Brag at about @20/1 a bit of weight since his 2nd to Spanish Harlem in Sept but I think maybe a chance to get a place.

Never heard of Jarvet Allan but you could be onto something as the trainer has a good strike rate

Hi Pompey, l’ll be gutted if “Three Card Brag” wins as I backed it when it won last time out…I will however be shouting it on if Gorgeous Tom becomes in need of a facelift.

If I was backing one in the Fighting Fifth it would be “Anzdam” who seems to held in high regard and seeing his recent wins this would appear justified.

I can’t see Golden Ace winning unless the other three are having an off day…. the only hope he has in my book would be if the race turned into a tactical battle…which isn’t beyond the realms of possibility.

The other donkey ;) :) you have picked might have a chance if the ground turns into a bog…. having said that, Venitia is a very shrewd trainer who has only been sending a few out this season which implies she thinks itsup to this task.

I'm not really thinking about a win...more that he could possibly run to a place.Thinking about it after placing the bet I now wonder if the extra 6lbs will tire him towards the end. The one I prefer to win is at too short odds that I'd want to bet on with such a big field.

No....should have done my e/way bet because of the decent odds ....but no I didn't back her
Looks like she is 14/1 for champion hurdle & still have Constitution Hill as 10/1 but that will change if he pulls out

Well ..you got some money back on your 4th place on Georgeous Tom

Three Card Brag was a good call for me with my £2 e/way bet

Well, that was a day of mixed fortunes…Pompey picked a 22/1 winner but didn’t back it :o  . He did however make a profit on his other selection Three card Brag which incidentally ran a brilliant trial for the Grand National should he line up.

I on the other hand made a £25 profit on my selections which should have been more had the starter not cocked up the start of the race, leaving one behind with my horse Gorgeous Tom having to make up 15 lengths. Considering how much he lost at the start he did well to finish 4th.

Javert Allan ran exactly how I thought the race would pan out with Booster Bob bringing home the bacon.

So, it was a 1st 2nd and 4th for me… and a 1st 2nd and….where did that donkey finish? ;) for Pompey.

Well Col Du Pre (the donkey  ) was in the rear until the stupid jockey fell off
I was hoping he might be like that 200/1 winner at Ascot last month "Powerful Glory" and come from behind to win...but no chance

A race at Fairyhouse 3:36 tomorrow that might be of interest...it's Ballyburn v Teahupoo

And of course I know you'll be cheering for the favourite on Monday in the 12:45 at Ayr even if you don't have a bet

Hi Pompey, I certainly hope “Upon Tweed” can amass me a few more points for the ABC competition.

You have clearly “Overlooked” the 7.00 Wolverhampton…. It’s the last chance saloon for this horse as I’m fast eating into the £15 I’ve put aside for my wife’s Christmas present…on that note, would you mind thinking of Christmas present ideas for £5 or under… just in case. ;) :)

I hadn't realised he was running & for me, it's not a race I would bet on but who knows you might get lucky with Overlooked

Have you seen a video of the Japan cup.....what an exciting finish with Calandagan & another horse ( I won't spoil it for you ) setting a course record

I think I can help with a suggestion for a cheaper xmas present for your wife but you need to go into Ludlow
https://www.tiktok.com/@thevanitycase/v ... 0968911130 .....you will have to scroll down slightly for the sound symbol

There are a few ideas look at soon after the start & also 00:58 and near the end
I'm sure you'll find something in one of those shops

Japan Cup

Epic Pompey, you wouldn’t have wanted to have been betting “in running” as the lead changed more times in that last furlong than I’ve you’ve picked winners ;) :)

Hi Onelife, a couple of thoughts for the weekend racing

Interesting to find out if Aworkinprogress can keep his unbeaten record as he is entered on Saturday in....
Welsh Grand National Trial at Chepstow & also at Sandown 15:35 Betfair Exchange and depending how well he does he also has an entry Dec 27th in the Welsh Coral Grand National against horses like Haiti Couleurs & Mr Vango

Lulamba is also running on Saturday but the competition might not be as easy as it looks
Finally Tingle Creek is also at Sandown ...will an older Jonbon be able to win here again or will Il Etait temps or L'eau de Sud prove too strong ?
(Won't be able to see any results...my computer has said it need a break for a week  )

Great! You swan off on your cruise while I’m left to take all the stick from Foxy and Ray

Some interesting racing this weekend with as you say the Tingle Creek looking to be a clash between the three you have mentioned…jumping is the name of the game at Sandown so the one that gets that right will probably come out on top….I won’t be betting on this race but Il Etait temps looks to be the one to beat.

This will be the sternest test yet for "Aworkinprogresss" and although it isn’t the strongest field he will be stepping up in class.

They’ll be jumping over the National fences this weekend and I’m currently looking at two for this race “Mombeg Genius” and the old timer 13 year old “Roi Mage”.

There is one that is catching my eye “Richmond Lake” 1.30 Aintree (if it runs) but I’ll expand on this one tomorrow.

Wishing you calm seas Enjoy!

Onelife’s Saturday Bankers

The 1.30 at Aintree is an intriguing puzzle not least because the trainer D McCain has two runners in the race, one of which is Richmond Lake, the other is Blue D Enfer with both having chances. The puzzle to this race is that the stable Jockey has switched to Blue D Enfer in preference to that of Richmond Lake (which he has ridden in his last 5 races) …under normal circumstance this would be a big negative for Richmond Lake but I’ve decided to stick with Richmond Lake because he’s done all his winning over shorten distances (which he has tomorrow) than that of his last race where he finished 17 lengths behind the winner. The going should suit, and he runs well around this track… so here’s hoping B Hughes has got this one wrong.

“Richmond Lake” 1.30 Aintree £8 win.

Later in the Afternoon they’ll be attempting the National fences and it will be no easy task finding the winner…I’ll be hoping Monbeg Genius can do the business. I think this horse is a grade better than most of the other horses in the race but often fails to live up to that rating, however, if the trainer has got him right, and if the horse is on a going day, then he has the class to win this race.
I will also have a side bet on Roi Marge. The outsider of the field, but may well out run his outs. He should take these fences in his stride as he has jumped round them before and hasn’t to my knowledge ever fallen in any of his races. If he can keep up with the pace (this distance is a little short for him) he may surprise and run into a place.

“Monbeg Genius” 2.40 Aintree £5 win - “Roi Mage” £1 ew

“Keplar Law” ran in a very hot race last time out and not surprisingly finished nearer last than first. If this race doesn’t come too soon (having only run seven days ago), he will find this opposition a little easier, and with odds in the region of 14/1 it may well turn out to be the value bet.

“Keplers Law” 3.15 Aintree £5-win £2 place

Foot note to the above…

Monbeg Genius has drifted markedly in the betting which would indicate stable vibes aren’t good, so with this in mind I’m cutting my stake to £1ew

I will however be upping my stake to £10 win on Kepler’s Law which has been backed into 2nd fav 11/2 from 14/1

Not the best day atheraces with only Richmond Lake running any sort of a race….disappointing, but that’s racing.

So, what do we say in these situations…. cut down on the wife and daughters Christmas present

I think your comments are well deserved but having just received a message from Pompey saying you two are the biggest losers on the forum who am I to argue…there’s also a rumour flying around that you’re so tight you’d hear a fiver fall on a carpet floor.
