Going by the car park in Morrisons everyone has already packed up for Christmas. But strangely the store didn’t seem that busy. Even got straight on a checkout.

I agree David, just back from a staggering bill , but while the store was extremely busy all was very Happy inside especially at the long queues for the check.
Still had to call into Asda to pick up some boxes of 1.5lt of Tropicana orange juice £3.32, normally £4.50.

We do have an Aldi which is where I would have gone for a turkey crown, however, my wife, who has better breeding and enjoys the life that a large country estate, with its herd of deer, 1 dog and 4 chickens can afford could hardly lower herself to shopping where our staff shop.

Well done OL for using your local butcher. Far better quality with a personal touch. My Butcher greats me with a "what do you want" I reply "just popped in for a bit of verbal abuse " I think it's something to do with Mrs B asking if she can place the Christmas order just after Easter.
They are a great bunch of guy's and really look after you.
Possibly your turkey crown will be moist with flavour, you pay for quality
I can understand that it wouldn't be proper to be seen in Aldi, giving the wrong impression to your staff.

In a smallish town like Ludlow, it’s a case of “don’t use it lose it” so we try and use our local butchers as much as we can, indeed we are quite fortunate to have two excellent Butchers, one of which is Walls in Craven Arms who always provides top quality meats as do Griffiths in Ludlow.
Yes, you do pay more, but it’s better than breaking your teeth on the dog food they sell at Tesco’s and such.

If you want a really good turkey with flavour and one that is far removed from the cheap ones then the prices are high. A large organic Kelly Bronze turkey serving 8-10 is £105 in M&S. I do know from experience that it's worth paying for a decent turkey, the flavour and the thick dark jelly you get when it's cold is far removed from the cheap end of the market. However, some people would say that once you have all the other things on the plate, potatoes, vegetables, pigs in blankets, gravy etc. then it's not worth spending money on an expensive turkey. Each to his own.

I wonder if there will be a swing back towards buying a good quality chicken instead of turkey. I hadn’t realised how relatively recently the bootiful bird became popular.

As long as they’re all prepared for the oven and have been passed fit for human consumption with a Defra certificate and are delivered free of charge I’m not that fussy how many

I sometimes have had Capon instead of chicken bit bigger than chicken + tender & juicy to eat as well
Maybe you could think about that for next christmas...never seen any in a supermarket but can get one at a good butchers
