…there’s also a rumour flying around that you’re so tight you’d hear a fiver fall on a carpet floor.

We both had good training from Merv. 😂
Don't worry, be happy

Some will have noticed that all of Sir Merv’s fivers have a slight tear in them…this is where they were attached via a piece of string to his wallet…Stephen told me. :)

Onelife’s Saturday Bankers

Only backing two tomorrow, the first of which is “GA Law” 1.50 Cheltenham. I’ve taken the 25/1 about this horse who on his day would be well up to winning this race, however, he hasn’t shown anything like this form in recent runs… which is why you can get these odds. The trainer has two in the race with this one being the outsider of the two, however with Isabelle Ryder being able to take 7lbs off his back it might just give him a squeak.

£5-win £2 place.

I’ve put this one up a couple of weeks back, “Joyeux Machin” 2.5 Doncaster. It may well be a forlorn hope seeing that the stables ‘second jockey’ has chosen to ride the other stable horse…however, I believe this horse is better than his last two runs so I’m sticking with my selection.

£10 win

Just in case any of you are thinking of rushing out to back my tips ....GA Law is a none runner.

I must say that I think GA law would have had a chance of winning or at least a place and at 25/1 I would have made an e/way bet
This is the same horse that came third to Gaelic Warrior in April

Hi Pompey, not sure you would agree with this, but it’s nice to see you back talking horses.

Well, the drought continues with Joyeux Machin finishing 4th…. that being said I wasn’t disappointed with its run, with only 4 lengths covering the first four home. I actually think this horse is becoming very well handicapped and come the Cheltenham meeting in March it may well be worth a good bet.

So, what do we say in these situations….here's wishing you all a very Happy Christmas xx

You might remember that GA Law was then made a non runner & I said If it had been running I thought it had a good chance for an e/way bet.

Well I spotted he is running at 3:00 Ascot tomorrow against some stiff opposition but as I was passing a bookies earlier today I thought I'd make an each way bet @28/1 It's only £2 so not exactly a fortune. I then noticed Wreckless Eric in the 3:35 @ 16/1....you might remember I mentioned him a long time ago and posted a video of a song by Wreckless Eric the singer.
Well I meant to get a e/way bet on the machine but because I had left in the details of GA Law found myself with an accumulator instead but if both horses grab a place I should make a small profit.
The only other big outsider I like is in the 14:25 Ascot called Beauport @20/1
Of course these being big outsiders means I should have no chance....but who knows I could get lucky....Total Spending £5
That's cheaper than a cappuccino & a muffin at Costa

Onelife’s Saturday Bankers...

Hi Pompey, bit late to the boards tonight as I haven’t long got back from doing 17 miles on the Yellow Peril (I wanted to test the lights out) however I won’t be doing that again….it was a bit hairy to say the least.

Incorporated into the 17 mile ride was a stop off at the bookies (they always seem pleased to see me, can’t think why)

So, my bets are on…I scrutinized the field last night and have come up with 4 horses that won’t give a great return price wise but should give me a good run for my money.

Rare Edition 1.50 Ascot £5-win…the ground didn’t appear to be too tacky today which wouldn’t have helped his chances so given a clear round he should be thereabouts.

Impose Toi 2.25 Ascot £5-win. I remember watching this horse win at Ludlow and thought then that this horse had plenty going for him…it’s a strong race but his odds reflect his chance. 5/2

Johnnywho 3.0 Ascot £5-win this horse has been in the penalty are on several of his runs but fails to find the net, however he has a falling mark which should make him very competitive in what is an open race. I did look at G A law but I’ve sidestepped him due to what I think will be a fast run race… and going by the way he jumped last time he might struggle; however, I did tip him up last time so I’ve had a covering bet of £1.25 ew.

Wilful 3.35 Ascot £5-win 5/1 taken…looks the sort to lead them a merry dance….will he last home will be the question?

50p Lucky 15.

Hope you were wearing a Hi Vis Jacket in the dark

Impose Toi 2.25 Ascot Looks a pretty good horse and might win
I see that Wilful is racing against Alexei again (Alexei 2nd Wilful 3rd) ...but this time Alexei has more weight...so yes he has a chance of winning
Another horse owned by Mrs Friti Hay....lets hope he does better than that other horse of hers you followed...Purosangue who still hasn't won after 15 races

Mark these words, Pompy. . Purosangue’s handicap mark has fallen to a level which looks very attractive for 2026…I will be very surprised if he doesn’t add to his two wins back in 2023.

Who do you think is going to come out on top in the Saville Chase…Galic Warrior or Fact to file or maybe?

Purosangue....Yes he has a good chance of winning next year if Overlooked & Sean are also in the race ;)

That Saville Chase is a bit hard to work out at the moment.....Mullins has 7 runners in the race and so can't be sure which of those 2 will run
He also has Galopin des Champs who hasn't run since April but won this last year beating Fact to File by 7 lengths

Sorry Pompey, the race I was refering to should have been the King George Chase (Boxing Day)

As for the other two donkeys you mentioned....they will also be well handicaped...everything comes to he who waits  :D

Saturday banker results...

Rare Edition 1.50 Ascot £5-win... (down the field, jumped badly)

Impose Toi 2.25 Ascot £5-win.... 1st 3/1 (very clever ride, class horse)

Johnnywho 3.0 Ascot £5-win... 3rd 6/1 (very unlucky, finished fast, only beaten half-length)

Wilful 3.35 Ascot £5 win... 1st 15/2 (led all the way. Won easily)

50 p win Lucky 15

So, what do we say in these situations …. looking forward to Boxing days racing.

Ahh yes they are entered in both races & I'm sure they will run in the King George Chase rather than the Saville
I see last years 1st & 2nd are also running but would be surprised if either of them won....Willie Mullins didn't have a runner last year and neither did Nicky Henderson who has Jango Baie.

Yes you did well today...like you I said Impose Toi is a good horse...so well done picking two winners and having a third.
My choices of outsiders were useless
I'll be interested to see your choices for boxing day ....but as I'm away at Christmas that will have to wait until my return.
I'll also be interested to see how well Sir Gino runs in the race before.

Onelife’s Thursday Banker

Minella Missile 2.50 Windsor.

Don’t let the fact that this horse is currently the outsider of the field put you off having 50p ew on it. Whilst his current form won’t give you much confidence as to its chances I think this horse has been primed/laid out for this race and barring a fall I expect to see it gain a place at the very least.

£15 win £5 place

Boxing day afternoon had a nice long walk ...but it was really cold. On return was passing a bookies and popped in to find out what happened in Sir Ginos race Christmas Hurdle ( 1st ) and who won the King George at Kempton....( The Jukebox Man ) it was nice and warm in there, watched a couple of races but wasn't tempted to make any bets.

I'm afraid I don't share your confidence in Minella Missile. Was great as a five year old but the recent runs this year make me wonder if he's up to it, although Racing TV have given him a 5 star rating and he has less weight this time.

Get ready for some exciting news about a donkey horse that's running on Jan 3rd

Ignoring your Grim Reaper comment ( although it was funny  ) you may remember you said on November 18th .....
" I do think it's worth draining the grandchildrens money box of a few quid " ....looks like that's gone down to 50p e/way now ;)

I see another horse you like Spillanes Tower ran today at Punchestown and came 3rd over hurdles....the trainer has said previously the horse is better at chase races so why did he go back to a hurdle race....he is currently 33/1 for next years Grand National but I would think he needs a longer race than this one & over fences if he is going to run at Aintree

Good morning Pompey, just done a return journey of 11 miles to put my money on the good thing today…taken 11/1 but note it has been backed in from 18/1. As for the other donkey (overlooked) running on Saturday I’ve had £10 win on it and fully expect it to deliver, especially as it’s been backed down to fav again.

I was very pleased with the run of Spillane's Tower but agree with you about why Mangan chose to run him over hurdles when he has stated the horse need fences to be seen at his best….he definitely won’t be running him in the National but the horse looks to be in good heart and one to keep on the right side in his next race over fences.

Dam it, Minella Missile finished 5th…ran a much better race than his previous races but it’s tinned dog food next week if Overlooked doesn't win on Saturday.

So what do we say in these situations?…Should have listened to Pompey

Yes I agree ,I thought Minella was going to get a place at the very least but i think the jockey had a last minute snooze :?

Might just change my mind about Overlooked chances tomorrow...he clearly has the best jockey onboard, McDonald has ridden Group 1 races
Apart from 3 others the rest of the field looks pretty low class. Timeform rates him so maybe he might get there

No ... some horses are there to never win......& one of them has to be ????
We shall find out this evening

Yes’ Pompey, Minella looked to be going as good as anything two out but got outpaced. I think it’s work in progress with this horse (having come back from injury) with, as you imply, the jockey not being over hard, it was however a big step up on his previous runs with hopefully more improvement to come?

As for the chances of Overlooked ... .There can be few excuses if he fails to fire this time around…that being said, he would need to be priced upwards of 7/1 for me to break even, and that isn’t going to happen in tomorrow's race.
