Can you bet on a horse to come last? Just a thought. Trying to help a friend out.
Yes’ you can back on a horse to finish last, and if I had backed Pompey’s donkeys I would be winning a fortune by now.

Onelife's Saturday Bankers.

I’m struggling to find anything that takes my fancy over the sticks this weekend so it’s off to Lingfield we go…

“Tonyfromhr” 12.40 Lingfield looks to be a fair EW punt in what is a race of many unknowns.

£3 win £2 place

“Spaceage Love Songs” 1.45 Lingfield. This is a weak race so won’t take a lot of winning and given he is now fitted with blinkers it might just bring out the improvement needed…but like the above is only an EW bet.

£ 4 win £2 place

“Navel Ensign” 3.39 Lingfield. This would be my best chance of a winner at Lingfield tomorrow….yet to win a race but has been knocking on the door in several of his races to date. One that should relish a strongly run race and should be finishing better than most.

£10 win

Already advised

“Overlooked “ 6.30 Southwell

£10 win.

Tonyfromhr is no longer a decent e/w bet ...it's now down to 4/1 from 11/1 yesterday. Interesting prospect...you could do well
also booked to run at Wolverhampton in a slightly better class race in 2 days time.
I'm hopeful for Si White 12/1, who has a German Sire ( Soldier Hollow leading sire in Germany 4 group 1 wins )
"Precocious and gifted with a fulminant speed, Soldier Hollow was a two-time winner as a two-year-old. His wins include the German Juniorenpreis."
So I'm hoping he might do ok....If I get to a bookies that will be my £2 e/way only bet of the day

Overlooked has blinkers for the first time, to help him focus....and along with good jockey ( rode the winner in the French Oaks ) has really got no excuses if he messes this one up.

Well Tonyfromhr wasn't that good on his opening race & my choice Si White didn't run as well as I hoped. Good job I didn't get to the bookies and waste £4.

Then your next choice came 4th so you are down £11 so far.

Your only hope left today is that Navel Ensign wins
I have to say in this race Ive seen two horses more useless than anything you could pick  ....Hannahs Story & Lasswade  They've even put the official rating down by 10 points on Hannah before the race has begun
2 more horses that will never win a race ;)

Well, you can’t say that I didn’t write the script…

“Navel Ensign” 3.39 Lingfield. This would be my best chance of a winner at Lingfield tomorrow….yet to win a race but has been knocking on the door in several of his races to date. One that should relish a strongly run race and should be finishing better than most.

1st 11/2

Navel Ensign......great call   you made a decent profit on that one

Yet again the horse that can't win only comes second

You must have been so happy after that Lingfield win only to have disapointment thrown in your face by Overlooked.
I actually managed to live stream the race free and saw the time it took to get Gimcrack into the stall whilst Overlooked strolled in like he was already going to be the winner
Well that got rid of some of those winnings didn't it :(

Hi Pompey, you’ll no doubt disagree with this, but I think “Overlooked” is starting to look like the most unlucky donkey in training. I accept this horse is no world beater but he once again ran a creditable race having only been beaten half a length.

So what do we say in these situations…a £24 profit means I won’t be eating dog food for the rest of the week. :D

I agree but maybe they should downgrade his OR rating to 45 so he can run in Grade 7 races....then I am confident he will win

Hi Pompey, I think “Overlooked” needs to be moved into a classified company instead of tackling handicap company where he always seems to be burdened with top weight…this won’t change while he keeps running into a place. The trainer/owner has two options, one of which is to let its handicap mark drop by letting the horse finish down the field (none trier) or move to a more leveling type of race which would be classified company ...not so sure they have class 7 races anymore?

You're correct, don't think they have class 7 anymore...my answer was just a gentle wind -up ;)
Also you can thank me....Sean ran 2 days ago at Meydan ( UAE ) I didn't tell you...
came 7th....that saved you wasting a couple of quid didn't it

Don’t you think I have enough to put up with, what with the ridicule Foxy and Ray put me through without you joining in ;) :)

I’m hoping that Sean will come back in fine fettle having got some sun on his back... but thanks for looking out for my best interests.

Btw …“Noble Ensign’s” win yesterday was a bittersweet experience…I decided not to traverse the icy roads so did my bets online…I took the morning odds of 7/2 and did myself out of £20 as it finished up at 11/2.

So what do we say in these situations…sh*t!

This morning finds me not that impressed with the new rules by the BHA that came into effect this week. From Wednesday, horses cannot participate in a race if they are 15lb or more out of the weights. So you might ask what's all the fuss ?
Was looking at the Warwick racecard at the big race on Saturday (William Hill Half A Mill Classic Handicap Chase 14:55 )
The inclusion of the 162-rated L'Homme Presse would mean that My Silver Lining ( who won in 2024 ) and De Legislator + Gold Clermont are also below the threshold required to participate.
I was really thinking that De Legislator @ 25/1 had a chance of getting in the top three and was thinking of having a small bet on him but now because top rated L'Homme Presse has decided to run, along with the other 2 mentioned, he gets stopped from running and only 9 horses run now.

Also on Saturday at Kempton in the Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle I was taking a look at Captain Teague & Wreckless Eric but there might be a chance of Kempton races being cancelled due to the weather.

Hi Pompey, It will be interesting to see how these new rules pan out..l think the excluding of lowly rated horses from being entered up in class 1 - 2 class races as a sensible move. lt ensures that those within the handicap mark will be of a standard that makes them competitive, as opposed to running horses well out of the handicap that would at best have little chance of winning and at worse be a hindrance to the better horses racing alongside them.

The other thing is that by going down this line it should (in the long term) produce a better standard of competitiveness in races, and as such should concentrate owners/trainers into buying better grade horses.

Where the new rules fail imo is where in what will be a long transmission period do the lowest grade horses find races to suit their ability? Putting a load of donkeys in the same races will/could lead to more race injuries which seems to go against one of the reasons why the BHA have introduced these rules.

At the end of the day I’m happy to go along with the BHA as it is becoming far too easy to purchase what are essentially cheap donkeys from Ireland, only then to find the majority of them ending up as tinned dog food.

Just a quick heads up....I don't want you dashing out tomorrow in the snow/rain on yellow peril but......
I just thought I'd update you about a horse you quite like....The old boy who came 2nd in a group 3 race quite a while ago
Yes " Sean " is running at Meydan again with Saffie onboard....tomorrow at 1:30 but I think the best he can hope for is a place and that's if he gets lucky, I think maybe sometimes Saffie seems to get blocked in which doesn't help and tomorrow he is in stall 14 .

But if I was having a bet ...and I'm not, I would be putting an e/way bet on Frankie John @28/2 Naas 1:43 tomorrow although Saint Bacos looks the probable winner

Onelife’s Saturday Bankers

If Warwick gets the go ahead tomorrow it will come as no surprise to Pompey that I’m putting up “Joyeux Machin” to win the 2.55. It will however be a case of whether this horse can stay the distance of three and half miles, a distance he has never tried before. It’s going to be a slog but looking at his previous runs I think he will get the distance, so with a clear round l think he’ll be thereabouts

Joyeux Machin £10 win £2 place - taken 12/1

At the same meeting I’m going to take a chance with “Botox Has” Warwick 3.32
Getting on in age and has struggled to find his form this season but any glimpse of his old form would put him in with a squeak…Should enjoy the testing conditions.

Botox Has £5 win

My last selection run at Newcastle - “Catherine Chroi” 4.20. Whilst there are question marks about whether or not he will stay the distance, a distance which is a furlong further than he has ever attempted before, however, given that this isn’t the strongest race l think this one has a fair shout at her current price of 7/1

Catherine Chroi £ 10 win

Warwick has now been abandoned so no chance of seeing how Joyeux Machin would do. I see that Dan Skelton has a few of his other horses running at Kempton today.

Interesting choice of Catherine Chroi at Newcastle but she has run close to this distance last year in July at Bellowstown in Ireland ( 7f 195 yds ) when she came 9/15. Iain Jardine respected Scottish trainer. I'd never heard of the young jockey before so looked him up. He is French born so it must of been quite difficult at first for him to get used to the Scottish accent and some of the expressions used.

Couple of interesting races at Punchestown on Sunday be interested to see how Mullins " Sober " runs against " Free Spirit " pity that only 4 horses run in this race

Going by the betting it looks to be a two horse race…Catherine Chroi isn’t one of them.

I wouldn’t be backing against "Sober" considering the class of horse he was running against on the flat.

Back to Joyeau Machin, it looks like he has been declared ( with 28 others ) at Doncaster Great Yorkshire Chase later this month

This is a horse that OL has tipped before & any of you reading this who might like to follow the occasional OL tip if you are out and about and see a bookies then why not have a small bet of £1 e/way whilst the odds are 20/1 because I have a feeling when the 48 hr declarations have been made, a few horses will have dropped out & Joyeau Machins odds will be a bit shorter.

Betting shop alert....Use Ladbroke, Coral or William Hills for the best price as Bet Fred are only offering 18/1
I'm pretty sure OL will be having a bet on Joyeau Machin nearer the race date however he might just switch if he thinks another horse with a good price might have a better chance

Hi Pompey, I was aware that Joyoux Machin had an entry for this race... I have lt in my “horse tracker” with ATR.

But thanks for the heads up as I wasn't aware of the price you can get about the horse…l’ve just taken 18/1 to a £5 win stake with Betfred. I will, as you say, take a closer look nearer the race, with a view to upping my stake if he stands his ground…if anyone is foolish enough to have a £1 ew do be aware that you lose your stake if it doesn't run at (Anti-post prices)

A very sad day with the loss of Kalif Du Berlis this afternoon….they’ll be a lot of tears shed at Paul Nicholls stable tonight.
