Hi Pompey, Not that you’ll be backing it, but “Overlooked” looks like starting Fav for the 5.00 Southwell tomorrow…No doubt another tenner down the drain...that being said I won’t be backing it unless I can get 2/1 and above.

I see that our Saturday Banker J"oyeux Machin” has stood his ground and as a consequence has been backed down to 10/ 1 in places…biggest price 14/1

I think Overlooked might start @ 3/1 and you're correct I won't be backing it or making any betsOnelife wrote: 19 Jan 2026, 15:14Hi Pompey, Not that you’ll be backing it, but “Overlooked” looks like starting Fav for the 5.00 Southwell tomorrow…No doubt another tenner down the drain...that being said I won’t be backing it unless I can get 2/1 and above.
I do quite like the inexperienced " The English Rogue " who drops down in class & distance but think his weight might be a factor

You may not be aware of this Pompey but Foxy has all the traits of a Schadenfreude. Don’t let his recent post fool you, he’s just trying to gain favour with you.

Now 12/1 with Corals & Ladbrokes....14/1 with Bet Fred......I still can't see him winning ButOnelife wrote: 19 Jan 2026, 15:28I see that our Saturday Banker J"oyeux Machin” has stood his ground and as a consequence has been backed down to 10/ 1 in places…biggest price 14/1
I have a kind of self satisfied smile that if he does make a place I managed to get the odds at 20/1
As for that hopeless " Overlooked " he is 2nd fav and I have to say the jockey Hannah Dring seems to know how to ride a winner
She was 3rd on Overlooked in December but has won 3 times on Isle of Wolves since August.
Maybe, just maybe you'll at last get the win you hope for
Nah Overlooked will disappoint as he always does won't he

Today, a very sad time for Onelife Once again he has been let down by that " Donkey " Overlooked.....came 9th
I can see him now in his kitchen head in hands ...looking at that oven & thinking should I.
My answer is Stop thinking he's going to win.....Some horses never win
Concentrate on Joyeux Machin he might have a chance of a place and also give us a good banker for Saturday
I still think you can sometimes find a great horse with a decent price......

Re: National Hunt jumps 2025/2026
Hi Pompey, it wasn’t as bad as it could have been as l only staked £ 5 win... this was due to all the negative, but perhaps justified feedback I've been getting.
I think it’s a case of what I said in this previous post… “Overlooked” needs to be moved into a classified company instead of tackling handicap company where he always seems to be burdened with top weight…this won’t change while he keeps running into a place. The trainer/owner has two options, one of which is to let its handicap mark drop by letting the horse finish down the field (none trier) or move to a more leveling type of race which would be classified company.
By my reckoning i’m losing in the region of £70 on this horse but when it finally does go in (at hopefully odds of more than 8/1) I’ll rejoice in saying “I told you so”

Re: National Hunt jumps 2025/2026
Onelife's Saturday bankers
Due to the amount of flack I’ve been getting I’ve decided to back a couple of no-hopers this week in the hope that miracles can happen.
Cheltenham 12.5 "Quebecios" is a big outsider but if you overlook its last race where he was thrashed 60 lengths then his other form figures are comparable to that of most of the other runners.
£3 win £2 place
Cheltenham !.50 “Latenightpass” is my second big priced selection. Running in the Cross Country Race this 13 year old has run some creditable races over this course and distance and whilst it's a big ask for a 13 year old to be competitive I think he is well capable of out running his odds. His last two runs however would have you thinking age has probably caught up with him?
£3 win £2 place
Cheltenham 2.25 “Spillanes Tower” potentially one of the best chasers in training ( imo) but clearly not the easiest horses to train. He’s up against an odds on fav but given a clear round I can see this horse giving the fav a good run for my money.
£10 win (taken 5/1)
Doncaster 2.5 “Joyeux Machin” I’m really surprised to see this one at the bottom of the betting market, indeed I can’t see any reason why this should be the case. He has run some solid races in defeat this season and I fully expect him to run one tomorrow…if there is a negative he is prone to the slight jumping error but putting that aside I think he has a lot in his favour.
£8 win £2 place.
50p lucky 15.

Re: National Hunt jumps 2025/2026
Ok Onelife......I was in town today and so stopped at a Bookies to put a small bet on your " No-hopers "
Quebecois 50p e/way ....now down from 18/1 to 14/1
LateNightPass 50p e/way about 16/1
Then I added 2 "no-hopers" of my own......2 horses that only a fool would bet on.....Thats me
Hurricane Bay Cheltenham 13:15 ....I got 66/1
Nemean Lion Cheltenham 15:00 .....only a madman would bet against Sir Gino & The New Lion......Hey, that's me
I got 50/1
I think Spillanes Tower will have to put in a much better effort if he wants to win this but maybe a race over hurdles has helped sharpen him up for this one
As you know we both have Joyeuux Machin and last years winner Docpickedme is also a runner at Doncaster

Saturday Results
Cheltenham 12.5 "Quebecios" 2nd 12/1- took 18/1 beaten a nse
Cheltenham !.50 “Latenightpass” 9th 18/1 outpaced
Cheltenham 2.25 “Spillanes Tower” 1st 11/4 -took 5/1 - class horse.
Doncaster 2.5 “Joyeux Machin” fell 7/1 Absolutely gutted - 5 lengths clear when falling.
So what do we say in these situations… Our working sheepdog “Lily” will be pleased as I’ve just canceled her “For Sale” add.

Re: National Hunt jumps 2025/2026
All in all despite having only one winner ....you showed your choices for today were pretty good with only Latenightpass as having no chance
I note that Spillanes Tower is now 33/1 with Bet Fred for the Grand National and only 20/1 with Corals & Ladbrokes ...or if he goes for the Gold Cup then he has been pushed down to 16/1
He was the only one of your choices I didn't have a small flutter on much to my regret now
It was such a shame JM fell....he deserved to win
My wildcard choices....I realised to late that Hurricane Bay prefers a sharper track and runs better on ground with a bit of cut
NoMean Lion was a surprise but I won't get anything back for 2nd....but then I never expected anything anyway

Re: National Hunt jumps 2025/2026
Hi Pompey, I normally take it on the chin when any of my selections gets beat but seeing JM fall when seemingly having plenty left in the tank was a hard pill to swallow. It was a strange kind of fall in that he was jumping from fence to fence looking comfortable at his fences apart from the one that caught him out. Landing on all fours, especially from that height was unsurvivable for both horse and jockey. I don’t think we’ll see him running for some considerable time as you don’t survive that kind of fall without sustaining, as yet to be undisclosed injuries?
The Gold Cup will be Spillane Tower's best option imo and will have a fantastic chance if the ground stays soft for Cheltenham …they won’t risk running him in the GN.
As for your selections, taking a chance on big priced horses always comes with disappointment but you only need one big priced winner to offset the others…
I could almost hear your heart beating when “Nemean Lion” came to the last infront…indeed, it ran a much better better race than I thought it would, even with, not despite the red hot fav being PU. I think the horse is just short of top class but there will be plenty of opportunities for this horse.

Re: National Hunt jumps 2025/2026
Like you I was surprised when I saw JM fall ( my hand went up to my mouth in shock ) I'm sure that he would have won but for his fall.
You say the Gold Cup is probably Spillanes best option but are you aware that he is entered in the Paddy Power Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown on Jan 31st do you think he'll run again so soon because his owner JP McManus has also entered Fact to File, I am Maximus & Inothewayurthinkin ?
Also last year he came 2nd to Gallopin des Champs in the Punchestown Gold Cup at the end of April....do you think he could be entered for that again rather than the Cheltenham Gold Cup although the anti-post betting seems to suggest Cheltenham ?
Sir Gino is comfortable and stable so I've read... following scans and x-rays he does have a fractured pelvis
Have you heard about Mangalese....that's 4 wins in a row seems to be coming on well. Up & coming trainer Max Comley seems to be a real nice guy.
Might be entered for one of the bigger races a bit later.
