I was on the 175th, only time I have been on it. Met Princess Anne, the book I got was the history of P and O. It did shudder a lot.

Another thing that added that special touch was the beautiful menu featuring artwork of historic ships, ports of call or pictures to compliment theme nights.

I only went on Oriana twice, once for a short 3 night cruise and then in the same year for a cruise. On the Fjords cruise we had Neil Turnbull on our table on formal evenings, he was then the Deputy Captain and his parents were on our table too. We found him very entertaining. Foxy mentions all the things I miss in the modern P&O era, and those menus too. I have a couple which I had framed and we put them in a summer house that we had in a cottage we used to own in Dorset. People often remarked on them. I don't remember the juddering, I just remember a lovely, traditional cruise ship. It seems that apart from Aurora and possibly Arcadia those ships have gone.

I have an old fashioned idea that progress is all about improvement and making things better. Unfortunately all too often this is not the case, more a matter of cutbacks for profit making purposes at the expense of quality.

Unfortunately Foxey, that's the way Carnival have taken P&O, destroying the reputation P&O had before the takeover.

Which is why I'm looking elsewhere, along with many others.

We did a cruise with Neil as Deputy Captain and Charlie Carr as Captain. It was hilarious, especially if the two of them were on the open bridge wing together that you could look down on from the deck above.

A lovely ship and sadly missed.

I note an enlarged passenger capacity in this new venture - extra cabins, or more 4 berth cabins?
