I was hoping to get a bet on today but in the end wasn't able to get to a bookies....so at least I didn't loose any money
My choices in the first two races didn't make the first three places but I was right about Jingko Blue in the 2:40 who came 1st
I also was right about Il Etait Temps who was included in the Patent I never got to put on.. as I had decided against L'eau du Sud ( who was 3rd )
I got 2nd with Jazzy Matty...and thats about it
I'm glad I never got to put on that patent with Majborough & Wodhooh + gold cup horse...as a kind of back up bet
I kind of got a hit in the last race as one of the 3 I mentioned was the winner ...but as I didn't make a proper choice.. that of course won't count.

I heard there were problems at the first two races as they lined up for the start...haven't had a chance to see any re runs yet.
Onelife...I don't think your doing too bad after the second day  ....I make you down by about £18 quid
So I'm hoping you'll have a better dat tomorrow.

Hi Pompey, you mentioned problems at the start of the first two races…it was a bloody shambles… and I should be given my money back :x ... ..as one Jockey put it “we were saying NO and the starter said GO.

They need to move the first hurdle further from the start or change from where they line up. They of course won’t change it this year but it needs sorting for next year.

Onelife’s Cheltenham Bankers

Day 3 Wednesday

2.00 Slade Steel - £5 win - Better hurdler than he is a chaser but if his jumping holds up he should be in the mix.

3.20 Ma Shantou - £5 win - Probably a grade too high for this horse but he’s in good form and should run his race… if a couple of these aren't on their A game.

4.40 Supremely West - £5 win - not the speediest of horses but with the predicted rain he might find enough speed to be in there at the finish.

5.20 Mombeg Genius - £3 win (25/1 taken) now 33/1 - Bit of an in and out character but on his day has the ability.

Looking forward to watching “Bambino Fever” in the 1.20…could be the next coming.

Hi Onelife, so your having a look at how Bambino Fever runs....well on 24th Jan you might remember me talking about an exciting Max Comley horse called Mangalese....only I spelt the name wrong it's " Manganese " and it's also running in the 1:20 however I won't get my hopes up as no 4yr old has won or even been placed in this race since it started. I didn't know that when I put my £1 anti-post bet on in January. Still it's a good experience for the horse.

Thursdays selections...
1:20 La Conquiere but I have my anti-post bet on Manganese which won't win
2:00 Jordons Cross
2:40 it can only be Wodhooh can't it ? NAP
3:15 Teahupoo
4:00 you may remember I have an anti-post bet on Impair et Passe @ 25/1...price is now 6/1 I also have a soft spot for Jonbon
4:40 Ace of Spades

I've been called away so I won't be around to see the rest of Cheltenham or the Midland Grand National on Saturday
So my selections ....(only three) for Friday are
3:20 July Flower ....was going to be Spindleberry but why not try something different
Gold cup....Take a chance that Haiti Couleurs might step up
4:40 Wrappedupinmay
Welsh National at Uttoxeter on Saturday....Rock My Way

Onelife’s Cheltenham Bankers

Day 4 - Friday.

1.20 Minella Study - £4 win - will need to improve further to win this very competitive race but looks to be going the right way.

2.00 Hello Neighbour - £5 win £1 place - Having got beaten 17 lengths by one of today’s other runners most will be steering clear of my selection, however, If you look deeper into the form you will see my selection has run some good races against what are arguably better horses in the past and a return to that level would give him a fair chance. The Trainer has been thereabouts with most of his Cheltenham runners so at 18/1 I think he’s worth a punt.

3.20 Mondoui Boy - £3 win (taken 40/1) now trading at 10/1. Has done nothing wrong in winning his last two races with ease. Yet to be seen if he is top class but going the right way.

Gold Cup

4.00 Spillanes Tower - £5 win - not the easiest horse to train, but on his day can be brilliant…this race should be a cracker.

4.40 Chemical Energy - £4 win £2 place - always runs his race but will probably find one or two too good for him .

5.20 Act of Authority - £8 win £2 place - finished second in this race last year but has shown nothing since…could have been set aside for this race? Probably my best chance of the day.

My Gold Cup selection “Spillanes Tower is a NR

To be honest I haven't a clue as to which one should replace it seeing that this years Gold Cup is one of the most competitive I’ve seen in years…Gaelic Warrior, Jango Baie are fav to win this race and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the case, but for a speculative bet, at a decent price, I’m going for “Grey Dawning” who is one that will stay the distance…some of the others aren't guaranteed to do so.

Grey Dawning £4 win £1 place.

Today results

1.20 Minella Study 3rd - 7/1- Ran a fine race

2.00 Hello Neighbour - 10th - 16/1- had a very troubled passage.

3.20 Mondui Boy - 4th - 14 /1 ( taken 40/1) should have backed it ew.

4.00 Grey Dawning - 4th 16/1 - ran his race….Gaelic Warrior so impressive

4.40 Chemical Energy - 11th - 20/1 - another cock up with the start .

5.20 Act of Authority - 5th - 14/1 (I6 /1taken) badly placed but finished well to get a place.

Staked £34 - Returns £8.40

Total loss over the 4 days £38.

Not the best result betting wise but thoroughly enjoyed the chase.

…..

In a sport where dreams are made and hearts are broken we never forget those who gave so much…sadly, Envol Allen collapsed on his way back to the stables…great horse having won 17 of his 31 races.

Onelife’s Saturday Bankers

Uttoxeter stage their Grand National meeting today where Pompey has put up “Rock My Way” as his likely winner, currently trading at 16/1. It will indeed be a weight carrying feat if this horse can carry !2st over 4 mile 2f so I’ll be looking at one with considerably less weight.

3.00 J’ Arrive De L’est - £4 win with a saver on Alcedo £1 ew - the first mentioned should thrive in the conditions and has a fair bit of form in races such as this.

1.50 Minella Missile - £4 win £1 place (33/1 taken) While his recent form doesn't look inspiring, I don’t think he warrants being these odds so I’m taking a chance that he’ll give a good account of himself.

Kempton has an interesting card where “Teddy Blue” may well outrun his odds - should enjoy the better going…can be a little headstrong but if he settles could well be the dark horse in this race.

3.18 Teddy Blue - £5 (14/1 taken)

Depends where you go Stephen...Some pubs in London cost nearly £8 a pint

Hi Onelife....did you see that amazing bet at Cheltenham where an Irish senior citizen made a 50p Lucky 63 bet & won about £480,000 euros ?
So it's quite possible that one day with a huge amount of luck one of your Lucky 15 bets could give you a nice little win

I know it's the start of the week but you might like to have a peek at the 3:38 race at Down Royal
To have a run in the Grand National it seems that Nick Rockett has to run in this and Gerri Colombe is also one of the runners
Of course we all know the real winner will be The Gradual Slope @ 200/1....I'm ready with my 50p win bet

Hi Pompey, I think it’s fair to say that if you are thinking of doing an accumulator style bet then the Lucky 15 - 31 and 63 is one of the best bets going. I did once get 4 up in a lucky 15 which, if my memory serves me right, paid out over £300 to a £3.50 stake - I’ve had several where I’ve picked three winners which often returns a nice payout.

I hadn’t noticed the two you mentioned were running tomorrow, which is interesting because seeing that Mombeg Genius won’t get into the National, my second choice to the winner of the Grand National IROKO was going to be Gerri Colombe. You can get 33/1 but with not having nrnb it's a little risky with a few weeks to go. The Grand National is one of those races where you would want to know what the going is before having any bet.

I shall watch with interest (might even have a fiver on him) depending on the odds.

33/1 with Bet365 but Corals is 20/1 & Bet Fred is 28/1.

Just seen that Jagwar is now about 12/1 and I remember in January when he ran at Cheltenham I had this crazy idea if he did well then his odds would go right down and put a £1 win bet on @66/1 even though he is known for a slightly " stiffed backed " jumping style
To be honest I can't really see him winning but it's one of those odd things, I just made the bet on impulse with a spare quid I had, but others must think he has a chance if the odds have dropped that much.

Hi Onelife, seems like I've got to dive away again for a few days so I'll be missing your Saturday bankers. :(
Mind you I'm sure that Foxy & possibly Ray will be around to comment after the races ;)
I did take a quick look at the Newbury racecard for Saturday and nothing really caught my eye

I did also have a peep at Friday and saw for the 2:00 a very inexperienced novice called Le Frimeur (also entered at Kelso for Saturday 3:48)
He won a point to point by 7l in Ireland before going to Harry Denhams yard and then won a race 2mile 3f by a length. A French-bred (FR) gelding (born 11 April 2021), described as a "blank canvas" with significant potential for the future as a chaser.
Not for a bet but one maybe to keep an eye on.

Hi Pompey, I hope whatever is taking you away at short notice isn’t too serious…do have a safe journey.

The last I heard about Foxy and Ray was that they were crying their eyes out at me having a 14/1 winner last Saturday. :D

I’ve taken a look at the horse you mention, it looks like a very competitive race…

I’m also struggling to find anything that takes my fancy this weekend.

Hi Pompey, woke up this morning to see Gerri Colombe was out to 6/4 (returned 8/13) so thought what the hell so plunged a fiver on him…he did the business but with a NR rule 4 deduction only returned £13.20 but it gave me a little smile because I’ve got him in my ABC.

Onelife’s Saturday Bankers

Not a lot that takes my fancy at tomorrow's meetings.

I have however had a couple of bets, the first of these is “Knappers Hill” 2.25 Newbury. This horse hasn’t shown much on his last three runs but would be well up to this if back on song....better going will help.

Knappers Hill £ 5 win (5/1 taken)

Oh! Dear, “Joyeux Machin” 2 15 Bangor. This is the horse I’ve tipped up before, only to see him fall when looking the likely winner. Not the most fluent of jumpers (which has been the case on his last three runs over fences) but with a clear round he might just scrape home. I say scrape home because I think we’ve seen the best of him this season and he may well need putting away till next season.

Joyeux Machin £ 8 win

£2 win double.
