Hi Delboy - have you heard Melody Gardot she is an American jazz singer? I can't say I'm a jazz fan but I first heard her sing on breakfast tv a few years ago and loved her voice and play her CDs regularly in the car. I don't suppose she is what you'd call a conventional jazz singer but if you've not heard her and get the chance to I'd be interested to know what you think.

By the way in January 2012 I went on a cruise which called at New Orleans and the atmosphere was electric - sailed down the Mississippi listening to a jazz band on a paddle steamer - fantastic experience - have you been there?

Hi Sue

I remember you saying before you were a fan of Stigers, it may have been when you went to see him before, did you not learn to play the Saxaphone?.

I also like him, I am sure you are in for a great evening.

Hi Jan

Melody Gardot is new to me, just listened to a little of this concert on You Tube,

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2mgMM-DQlcQ

Enjoyed what I have listened to so far, have saved the link and will have to listen right the way through, another female singer I like is Stacey Kent. I prefer what I call soft jazz, although also dont mind traditional jazz.
Must have been great sailing down the Mississippi , have not been there myself.

When I sailed on Ventura, they used to have a great little Jazz quartet played up in the Metropolis bar, late at night.

Have to agree Delboy. We have seen tribute acts for Annie Lennox (as did you), Tom Jones, George Michael, Robbie Williams and others ... but the one that sticks in my mind was the night we sat up on deck late one night in the Caribbean listening to the Bee Gees tribute and watching several shooting stars going by.

They got the entertainment just right when we were last on Azura.

I enjoy music covering a broad spectrum, don't mind some opera and have had the pleasure of going to the Royal Opera House, in Covent Garden.
My main interest though is Jazz, one of my favourite artists being Diana Krall, she is a Canadian jazz pianist and singer, known for her contralto vocals. She has sold more than 6 million albums in the US and over 15 million worldwide. My wife hates Jazz.
I have my earphones plugged into my Ipad as I am writing this, listening to a playlist of soft jazz tracks, streamed from my main computer.
Sorry Jo, but André Rieu music does nothing for me, but just to let you know he has concerts in Nottingham, Liverpool and Leeds in December this year. Check the following link.

Thanks Derek, I did know he was doing the UK again this year but also knew it was December so hadn't checked the dates, Nottingham would be a possibility but will depend very much on what we are doing for Xmas ( not booked yet )

I wasn't particularly meaning just the music, on it's own I agree it does very little unless you really appreciate listening to the violin ( which I don't ) his concerts though with all the other artistes I think is really something.
