Facebook is not for me!

Unread post by Admiral of the Humber »

Dear Cruise Community'eers,

Good afternoon to you all and thanks especially to Smurfie....this all looks very grand....are you Bill Gates in disguise? It's a little more to my taste than facebook which is a little "shallow" in my humble opinion...yes I know Facebook is loved by zillions...but in the fashion of a certain monocled personage...I am right and they are ALL wrong!

Regards
Rob aka AOTH

Would agree completely AOTH - and I haven't even joined. I go on the P&O page via the link on P&O, read a few of the comments, and am very grateful that I've never been tempted to go any further.

Hi you two. It's good for some things. For instance someone started a British Caledonian Reunited page and we now have 298 members. I have met up with old friends from over 20 years ago. As long as you have your privacy settings right, it's great. don't like companies like P&O on it though.

I didnt realise you could look at the P & O facebook pages without being a member of facebook.... Its not my cup of tea though.

Must admit Admiral it's not for me either.

I did try. And I found the unofficial p&o group to be the nearest to the sort of chat/info we have on the P&O Forum (and some familiar faces which was good) but it just wasn't the same. There was one fella even doing a daily countdown to his next cruise.....in a year's time !?! I'd be self harming reading that every day ;-)

I can't get along with Facebook at all. As a site I find it hard to navigate to find something which interests me and the Official and Unofficial P&O sites just don't cut the mustard. I have only just discovered this forum and I have to say, I like it.

Hiya Foxy glad you found the place, I love Facebook for what it is keeping in touch with people you know who live away so I would not be without it but nothing can beat a good forum. :P

He most certainly is DQ!! After mentioning my name in the same breath as those two he could be the first one to be reported. Although after what the striped menace said by way of a welcome it's a toss up between the two of them.

Jaczs, nice to see there are some decent people on here. :)

I find Facebook okay, but lacks the "community" feel and is a bit cold

I managed to put a photo on using I pad but had to downsize the photo using a site someone posted on here.

I also struggle with face book. Have been trying more recently but get very confused with it.

Sue I hate FB ( only used it to keep in contact with my brother in Oz) but now we both have ipads and iphones use Messenger / Facetime. I am going to leave it once I have finished promoting this forum...... :)

I've never thought that using a real name (on FB) and telling the world when you will be away from home on a cruise is the most security-concious idea - especially for those people who, unlike us, don't have a house-sitter.

Totally agree, Rob, about people putting too much info on Facebook. I keep nagging my son about that. Please say thanks to Wina for the welcome message

Yes agree. I don't say things like that on facebook. However, if you have your privacy settings right, then only your friends can see that stuff anyway, but you do need to do it carefully. My FB account is set so that only my friends can see anything that I type. Even then I wouldn't give out personal information about what I'm doing.

Lioness, are you sure?

I'm not a FB friend but I've read some of your comments on the P&O page.
